Hello all!
My fox squirrel is old enough to release and I was wondering what kind of nesting box is best for her. There are several models here and on other sites: http://www.knwoodworks.com/SQUIRRELFEEDERHOUSE.html
I want her to learn to sleep in it for a few weeks indoors before I take her out.
Thanks!
We have a couple of those models ourselves.
They're very nice, however, expensive.
If you have the means or way to build a temporary box, you might consider that.

For years I have been using the cockatiel nesting boxes that they sell in PetSmart. The squirrels love them and they are reasonably priced at $16.

I love Nuts About Squirrels - I also make my own, but the quality and lumber/time spent making them - the prices are amazing. They also provide protection from raccoons reaching in.

Here are the plans I have used on several different occasions to make nest boxes. If the box seems too big, you can use a 10" wide board instead. I also add an outside ledge (like a front porch) and also some hardware cloth on the inside.
Additionally, when I cut the sides, I cut the tops at an angle so when the roof is on it is slanted so water will run off.
