Today, I found a baby flying squirrel. I have no idea how old he is or what I should do to help him. He's scared out of his mind and won't eat anything or do anything. He just sits the the cage and stares. Earlier he was asleep, but after I tried to get him to eat, he's just been the same as before. Plus, he didn't eat.

He's a bit smaller than this one; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ugrgkciS3Y

I'm not sure if he's just to scared to do anything, or if he really just doesn't belong with me. I felt so bad for him though. I found him hiding from my cat who tried to get him. My cat isn't an inside cat, so. She's no where around him. Do you think he'll eventually calm down and get used to me, or do you think, he'll always be skiddish and I should just let him go. I don't know what to do for the poor thing. When I try to take him out of the cage, he tries to get away, so I've stopped trying to touch him.

yes, please tell us where in FL you are - we have many FL members, so someone might be able tohelp

In the meantime, give him a lot of old t-shirts/fleece (just nothing loopy like towels or knits) to hide and snuggle.

Keep him somewhere where it's dark and quiet, maybe, cover the cage at least half of it.

He needs to be able to hide and snuggle to calm down and feel safer.
So, give him tshirts and cover the cage at least half

If you have a heating pad - no auto shut off - put it UNDER HALF of the cage, on low.

How small is he?... Could you post a picture?

Do you have a water bottle?... if you do, hook it up to the cage
If he is too small to figure out the bottle, he will need to be fed, but he needs hydration.

Please keep checking back here often - experienced FL ppl will be here soon.

Thank you for saving him.

Sqs are legal in florida..
do you need someone to help you?
we have members and friends all over the state..
what city/town are you in or near?
what are you feeding the flyer baby?
did the cat puncture his skin? cat saliva is deadly if untreated with antibiotics.
How is his/her poops and pee?
are you using a syringe?
sorry for all the questions, it will help the rehabbers understand the situation and help needed.
Thank you for rescuing the baby and finding TSB

only once it's very, very slowly warmed up and it gets hydration (pedialyte or home made pedialyte)

they can easily die without these first 2 steps...

then it's diluted fox valley formula (not esbilac or any other formula) ... we have a temporary goats milk formula that jackie in tampa has shared with us... until the fox valley arrives...

never feed cows milk .... and esbilac is not recommended as are not any of the pet food store formulas... this is a baby squirrel ..not puppy/kitten etc.

staci we probably have half of our members in florida ... lucky you are legal there... someone could meet you somewhere ... they don't have to come to your house if you're worried about that.....

but the sooner that someone with experience takes this little one the better... (if that's what you want )

otherwise you need to take it to an experienced vet... cats saliva is deadly to flyers... without any symptoms at all he'll be dead in two days because of the cat.

if you can tell us the city we could probably recommend a vet ....

this is really an emergency.... :grouphug
