Over the past six years Scrat has had several things go wrong, almost all were physical in nature type issues. However to night just happened to look in her ears, which the vet checked about a month and ahalf ago, and found something blocking her right ear canal. The outside was hard and texture looking like it swireled and the inner material was white until air hit it and it turned lime greenish. Close examination it looked like a larva in substance.

Has anyone got a clue? Can't submit a picture. Anyone know of any ear issue's that this might be. Planning on taking her to the Vet in the morning.
The last couple of days she's had some whiteish substance around her mouth. She's not allowed to get in water saturated ground simple because I've never wanted her to have a parasite issue. She's a in the house family member and goes out during the day every couple of hours. That's why I built a chateau for her to get in when it's windy, cold, rainy, or snowy. It's lighted and heated. so she's got dry ground to be on. I can stand or sit in the lawn chair. Don't know how she could've picked up a parasite, and what kind would enter and reside in an ear canal.

anything can get in an ear, buggie eggs are very very small. In dirt, sand, leaves, bark , just about any where.
At first I thought you were talking about ear mites.
I could be a fly larva.
Vet is a good idea......
good luck, let us know

tks, I can't imagine how she would've gotten something in her ear when she's only on flat (balance issues) grassy (considering it's winter here and it's all brown) no leaves where I put her on the ground and if the grounds wet she goes to the chateau where it's dry. Oh, well I'll find out something in the morning when I take her to the vet. By the way I'm in an illegal state, but I've had her 6 years in sept, she was about 2 months old when I found her laying in the backyard. she had a neuro injury and is non releasable.
She's an indoor family member, but She needs the outside for obvious reasons. She's not in any cage except at night for safety reasons. I have t
wo cats, 1 as of a week ago sunday when one got out and hasn't been seen from since. They stay in the bathroom during the day, that way scrat can sleep on the couch with me. She has a place on the floor in her room to sleep in during the day when I leave the house. Her door is closed for safety in the event the cat(s) were to get out of the bathroom. It's a big counter that encompasses the bathroom in an L shape, plenty of room, food and cat box.

smell the ear..
infection is funky...
a common ear wash/flush, either oil or water based can be bought at most pet stores, drug stores $ thru any vet without a prescription.

Apply to the ear canal and use your pinky like a plunger...
for 30-60 seconds..
lean ear down to drain and try to get all fluids out, making the ear as dry as possible.

A vet visit would be ideal...but not all are able to.
If you think it's an infection, try getting some ABs.
There are many threads with safe sq friendly antibiotics listed.
Many TSB rehabbers can help with that info if needed.

If the other ear is clean, I doubt it's a parasite such as mites.
Mites leave a black residual in the ear, very noticable.

I have seen maggots in the ear canal...but not on captive sq.
good luck..
and keep us updated please.

Tks for the input and comments. I have a vet that deals with exotic animals and so far has been very good with scrat. Thinks she an angel. All the vet techs also talk highly of scrat. Their always happy to see her when she goes in for a check up. I do that twice a year automatically regardless whether there's issues or not. I rely on TSB for support and lot's of inputs. Even tho all her siezures stopped, she's been having trouble getting around lately, worst that her balance issue. And she shakes her head alot. Or looks to the right with her head leaning upward. That's what made us look at her ears, even tho the vet just checked them a month ago. I don't let her lay on the ground so when she falls over I immed pick her back up onto her feet. I'm guessing, but if it's some kind of parasite it climbed up her leg and took route north to her ear thinking it was a cave that needed exploring. I hope this wasn't brain tissue being pumped out through the ear canal and I just removed it, leaving her spaced out.:dono

All of those who voted ear infection due to da breeze please stand. Those of us who didn't know better applaud..:multi .....tks all...it was due to ear wax that didn't clear out. Her left ear was clean as a whistle, even tho she can't and I haven't tried to teach her yet.
