I am asking this of the squirrel people, but this really applies to a
crippled rabbit.
One hind leg has some strength, the rabbit can push off with the rt. hind
leg, but the left is limp.. Rabbit gets around well, eating well, but
has no sensation or control of urination.. Hence.. wet legs, urine
scald, and in need of 2x daily washing and cleaning of butt and legs.
Diaper will not work, it will just hold in poops and rabbits poop all the
time.. Has anyone tried to wrap the hind legs of a crippled squirrel
almost like the squirrel had casts on it's legs to prevent the urine
from causing skin irritations? Rabbit's legs are shaved to prevent
the fur from holding the urine against the skin even more.
Any suggestions, ideas?
Rabbit is kept on sheepskin bedding, since that wicks away
any urine so at least the bedding is not wet.
Thanks..

:wave123 :) I am not sure about wrapping the legs, but I want to post that for the urine scald there is nothing better than Silvadene cream. If you need some I have extra. :)

Here is a yahoo group for people with disabled rabbits. It seems to be a fairly active group based on messages posted. Perhaps you can find someone who has "been there, done that" with a rabbit with similar problems. Good luck.

The rabbit will lick the Siverdene cream.. I can't think that would
be a good thing. Wish problem was in a place rabbit could not reach.

Apply silverdene, wrap with gauze pads with the plastic back and wrap with self-adhesive ace bandages. It would slow it down enough for the silverdene to do it's work.

Thanks guys.. for some good ideas.. It's not my bunny or I for
sure would try MANY things to see what might have some
good results.. I will relay all this to the owner.. and hope she
is open for trying different things.
If you think of anything else.. please post.
Thanks.

Good ol Desitin is great as long as there's no licking (zinc oxide). It's waterproof. Afterall--it's designed to protect skin from pee.
