I have recently read that someone had given their grey some worms and their coat and fur were better. So I, of course, thought, lets give Skeeter some too.
But first, I wanted someone to let me know if what we got is ok for her.
They are made by zoo meds...can o'worms. They say they are for lizards and amphibians....
crude protein...17%
crude fat...5%
crude fiber..1%
crude ash..3%
ingredients..farm raised mealworms, refrigerate after opening.
Are these ok to give a grey? :dono

My guys - who are greys too - do like mealworms, but refuse to eat the canned, dried or freeze-dried ones :shakehead ... picky guys I have, they will only take the live ones. I do believe that a little meat protein is excellent for rgeys too as I have observed them (my wild ones I mean) outdoors eating worms and bugs on many occasions. Others will probably chime in on this too.
We would love to see pics of your sweetie... :poke you have to know we're all squirrel pic addicts here :jump

So you are saying that I can give them to her? Who knows with her, she is the only squirrel I know since I have been a member here that does NOT go crazy over avacado...so I will try the bugs...anything to make her more beautiful than she already is. :Love_Icon
I want to get her a thread, but i have to transfer some pics to my computer, i only have 2 when she was just a baby, when her eyes were still closed, but i will get it together hopefully soon. I want the world to see her because I love her so dang much.
BTW, there are some of her with her bald spots and molting stuff, have you seen them?

Hi Shelby:wave123
It is BETTER to Feed the LIVE Worms. Their is More Nutrition in them. :thumbsup3 Mine NEVER liked the Freeze Dried Can of Worms. :shakehead
When I had Ardilla 5 Flyers. They Would not go back to the Can Dead worms. :shakehead

Yes, you can offer the worms.
There are several members that do that.
Some just find it creepy to give the live ones.:D

I got some freeze dried meal worms from Chris's Squirrels and Stormy Lee seems to love them. She has never been offered them in any other form, though. BTW, I just read that avocado is toxic to all animals. I am going to post it in the nutrition forum.

Get grass hoppers from the store. They love them. Just hand them over to them of course.

Avocados for squirrels are OK - the flesh is, that is... BUT... it is the skin and the pit that are toxic to them. So, yes, you can feed avocados to them, just make sure not to let them get the skin nor the pit!!!

Well I find no need for avacados if she dont like them. I keep trying to re-introduce them to her, but she still wont have any part of them. So I wont get them any more. But she does love a variety of the veggies i do give her.
Try some sweet potato too, in minimal amounts of course, yours might like them as well. Also cauliflower, I give Skeeter the cores so they are harder and she chews on them a lot too. And I just introduced her to romaine lettuce too and she likes that too.
I keep trying all different stuff just to give her a change. I always say...as long as its good for her, then try, try, try!!!
I meant to say the cores of the cabbage, not the cauliflower. She gets the flowering part of the cauliflower.

If you have a Mexican or Korean vegetable market near you, try to get the white sweet potato the Mexicans call "Yama". I have not had one rehab squirrel in 5 years who didn't LOVE THEM. They have less sugar than typical orange sweet potatoes and loads of vitamins. Even my released kids like them, long after they're free in the trees.

If you can pick up some live waxworms, better choice. My greys eat probably 10 (or more) waxworms a day. I coat them in calcium powder, they eat them right out of a dish in seconds!!! lol (But start by handfeeding to make sure she is eating them, so they don't wander away...you don't want waxworms loose in your house! And they can climb out of containers.)

We use them with skunks and haven't had any problems. But live is better.
