I have raised a baby flyer, and he is ready to be released. what is the best way to do it? Even though I am in Florida, we do have some cold nights, and he has been inside since October. How can I be sure that there are other flying squirrels in the area? I know that it would be best when it is dark, but that is going to be hard for me to do. He's a lover, and it will be very hard for me even under ideal circumstances. Any suggestions?

If he has not been outside, I would wait a bit until it is a little warmer. Or perhaps if you are close enough, he could go to Jackie, as she has a bunch that will be released. A single is hard, as they colonize in cold weather to stay warm and with him not being acclimated, I would not do it right now. I am sure others will chime in.

Thanks Mary. Do you have any suggestions about finding other flyers? I thought about buying a female so they could start their own colony. I had a female a long time ago, and I bought a male for her, but they didn't like each other.

In the upper right hand corner of the page under where it says "Welcome, kaydeedid" is a link that says "Private Messages". Click on it and send a message to:
Jackie in Tampa
written just like that and I am sure you will hear back. She has a big outdoor setup for her flyers so this little one could become part of a colony, which is your very best case scenario.
