I have a 6 month grey squirrel with MBD. She was healthy as a lark (so i thought) and then 5 hours later she could not move from waist down. ALMOST dead!! I followed MBD EMERG TREAT and change her diet to the reccomended diet on TSB. She is so much better now but her back legs just dangle. I do physical therapy every day with her. She can feel them and will pull them back when i tug on them. This is going into the 5th week. Do you know if she will ever use them again? Its so heart breaking to look at. But she is wide open and just scoots alog great. They dont slow her down. Any advice. Her diet is HHB 2 a day, veggies (a couple pieces a day) and maybe a almond for a treat. She also gets Henry's healthy vita-mins 1.5grams a day. :D

HI Baby-gurl, welcome!:Welcome
It might be better if you re-post your question as a separate thread.
Since this tread focuses primarily on djarenspace9's question, you might either get overlooked or not get enough attention.
So, do re-post your question as a separate thread:
Choose which forum you would like to post it in:
Life-Threatening Help needed (this current forum) or Non-Life Threatening Help needed
Click on New Thread - upper left corner
Choose a title for your thread that pinpoints your problem: say, MBD treatment or something like that
Post your question.
It will be helpful if you describe in detail:
1. how her MBD started: diet before, what formula she was on as a baby, her symptoms
2. how you started and followed Emergency MBD treatment (how much cal per day she'd get, in what form, how she was acting while on Emergency treatment - everything, how she got better etc etc etc)
3. In detail: what she is like now, how active etc.
4. Also, provide her history: how you found her, if she had any injuries/wounds when you found her.
5. Did you do a pinch test?... Pinch her back legs and see if there is any reaction.
It's great that she eats HHBs! - wonderful!
Another question:
when she got her MBD first, was there a chance that she could have fallen and hurt herself while sick with MBD?...
Could she have fallen right before her symptoms started?
Usually, MBD squirrels need to be kept in low cages with much padding all over in order to avoid further injuries as their bones are very brittle and fragile.
If there was a chance that she might have fallen and hurt herself, her lack of motion in her back legs might have something to do with that.
So, re-post your question as a separate thread and try to provide as much detail as possible answering questions above (just make sure, each answer is separated into paragraphs, otherwise, it might be hard to read ;)).
Massage and physical therapy do help.:thumbsup
I see you are in SC - there is a great member here lilidukes, who has much experience, especially, with similar injuries/problems.
So, you could contact her, too.
MBD recovery does take a long time.
But it would be great to figure out if there was a possible injury on top of MBD.
Do you have a squirrel-friendly vet?

Thanks ASTRA!!! I will start a new thread. I called Vet in GEORGIA about 15 min from my house, but they told me it was illegal for me to keep her. I don't know any VETS in Aiken COUNTY. Do you or anyone else.

I did the pinch test and she jerks her feet back. So I know she can feel them.

well, do check with lilidukes, because she said that it is not illegal to keep squirrels in SC. It might be in Georgia, but, I think, SC should be ok.
But do check with her first AND with a vet - do not disclose yourself and do not give them your info until you can ascertain that they won't seize your squirrel.
If she kicks back with the pinch test - that's great!!!!
THat means there is hope.

Can you just tell us what kind of formula she was on, and when she weaned? Astra brought up a good point, this may also be caused if she had a fall. Are you sure that she has MBD, I mean was her diet that bad? OR could she have fallen causing this problem?
How long ago did this happen?

Are you still giving calcium? You have to give calcium even at this stage of the disease. Have to. Even with the blocks and veggies. I have a female grey thats 5 1/2 years old whos started symptoms 4 weeks ago and im still doing calcium. Shes still shaky and has some peralyses lingering. Her tail is usually fluffy and she carries it high and curls it on her back but since she got sick it hangs limp. So please if you arent giving calcium do it. And sunshine or uva or uvb lamp/lightbulb.
