Hi everyone.....happy new year!!!!! Its been a while and I have a problem I need help with. I have lots of wild squirrels in my yard however I am so upset to see the condition of this one big boy. Im pretty sure its a boy...he is soooo fat and his lower stomach is bald and skin is red. He seems to have poor vision and his head is tilted to the side a bit. I have handed him food and most of the time he will come right up to me.When he eats he holds the food up high above his head. All of the others pick on him which kills me. He is very sweet and I would like to help him if at all possible. Please give me any input any of you may have.

I havent a clue... I really just watch him. He was not my rescue so I havent spent time with him. Have you ever seen anything like this?

Don't know what is wrong, almost sounds like a head injury.
If it were me I would try to get him and bring him in, he can't run away from a dog or cat like this. I would try to feed him 3 times a day, block morning, salad lunch and fruit and nut for dinner. try to skinny him up a little and reevaluate him after he gets back to a better weight, if possible, then decide if he can be released.
Poor little guy, its possible someone had him and got board and just let him go, could be why he came up to you and why other squirrels "pick" on him, I would bring him in . but then I want to bring them all in !

I would say he has been neurologically damaged somehow; likely a fall - they do fall, and can hit their heads on the way down... I have a number of neuro squirrels here around my house - I feed so they don't have to compete as much and so do pretty well... The way they hold their food - I have watched them hold it higher and higher until they tip over.:shakehead
Sometimes neuro issues can also "tilt" the metabolism. I have a friend with a neuro squirrel with weight issues. I think this guy's tummy is dragging; and I bet he also winds up with a lot of pee on it, so I believe the redness is likely scraping and urine scald.
My neuro wilds are very skittish, but this guy sounds friendly. Do you want a forever squirrel??

wow, I am speechless. Yeah, what Crittermom and Sweet Simon's Mommy said. But if possible, I would want to bring him in.
Do you know if he is someone else's rescue?

OMG....I just wanna hold him! Yes, I agree with everyone else. Most likely has a head injury and somehow has managed to survive, but goodness my heart aches looking at his pic. Could you possibly catch him?

He looks like he is in a parking lot or near a road?? I agree he should be caught and brought in; doesn't sound or look like that would be too hard. He looks like a real sweetie who is just lost....
