First, i would like to ask how you post new threads and start a conversation about things here. Or do you just have to reply to the things already posted?
Then I would like to ask if there is a way to "potty train" my Skeeter? I have tried putting a stainless steel bowl in one corner of her cage, then some "yesterdays news" litter, she just buried her stash snacks in it. I have seen these fabric pads posted by someone on here, but do not know how to navigate to find where it was again.
Seems when I try to look through the TSb, I go all over the place and cant find how to get back.
Also, has anyone tried to put their squirrel on a leash? Is this a good/bad thing? Can it be done?
:thankyou

you start conversations about new things exactly the same way you started this thread: just start a new thread ;) Make sure your thread title states your problem clearly - it helps to draw attention of those who might know the answer to your question

There is no really a way to potty train a squirrel.
They are essentially wild animals, not cats and dogs [sigh], otherwise, it would be GREAT! ;)
Some people do come up with some things that seem to help.
E.g., when you see he is about to pee, put a paper towel so that he pees on it. Do it several times, so that he associates paper towel with peeing. Then, put some paper towels in his cage and put the recently peed on paper towel there, too - to show him that that was his toilet spot.
Some people put them in the cage after eating, so that they do their business in the cage.
There were some other ideas, but I don't remember (sorry, very tired right now). But I am sure, other people will post.
Rehabbers also recommend CareFresh (i think) to put on the bottom of his cage.
Again, let's wait for people to post, because I really don't remember right now.
Also, has anyone tried to put their squirrel on a leash? Is this a good/bad thing? Can it be done?
:thankyou leash is not a good thing - squirrels are jumpers, fast, abrupt - with a leash and a collar you will end up breaking his neck,
Some people use harnesses. Still, you have to be very careful.
I'd suggest posting a separate thread about harnesses, so that those who used them will share their experience.
There are certain things to know about harnesses, NOT ALL Squirrels like them and accept them.
If you do not use it properly, you can injure him.
So, do post your harness quesion as a separate thread.
sorry, could not be more helpful - really tired right now, was up since yesterday.
Do keep checking often - more people will respond.:grouphug

:wave123 Hi ShellyB
What I used was a Bird Harness. It fits like a figure 8 on them. They can't slip it off at all. The other one come off fairly easy. If your little one is NOT A Releasable, I wouldn't start taking her out side.:nono It will make her start craving the wild like Crazy. I started off with a 4 foot leash.
Then worked up to 30 feet of leash. BUT Rocki was Very Special. She knew when I tugged on her to come down and how not to Get tangled.
A few other Release Squirrels just never Figured it out. :D If you go the the Gray Squirrel and click on Raising Miss Rocki by Skul.
Click on Page 4 and scroll down to post 93 and 104 you will see Rocki in her Harness. I also posted a link for you to just click on and it will take you directly to the Page.:thumbsup3http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10638&page=4
I would not take your Squirrel out side unless you intend on Letting Her Free. She will start craving the wild so much, She will be wonting her Freedom.
PS
When Rocki was young I use to dress her up so she would get use to the Harness when I put it on her.
Good luck Christal

thank guys!
I do not intend to take her outside, just to let her be in other parts of my house. I do have to say, as time goes and she gets older, she does seem to be calming at times, especially with me and my son. So we were thinking that she may get used to some kind of harness of some kind. I am going to check out your link and take it from there.

That is one big pretty girl you have. How old is she? It looks like you have been doing a good job with her and yes this is a hard place to get around on and figure out what goes where. I have been a member several years and I am still trying to figure it out.

Bobby,
I think she is pretty petite...Maybe the pic makes her look larger, we found her in the beginning of Sept, her eyes were still closed, so I am guessing she was about 2-3 weeks old. So to guestimate, I would say she is almost 5 months?
Its hard to judge, seems like she has been with us forever. I cant imagine life without her now. lol :Love_Icon

We did buy a harness made for ferrets, at the time, it seemed to big for her, but she has gotten bigger, i think i may try it again and she how she does with it. It would fit her body like Rocki's vest. So heres to keeping my fingers crossed and just maybe it will work for her. :thankyou
