I was just wondering how often a grey squirrel should be deformed and with what. I have never wormed Twiggy, and thought I need to find out. We worm our cats, dogs, and horses, but I did not know what or when to worm squirrels. Thank you for any help.:dono

Per my vet, all my squirrels are wormed as soon as they are stable and healthy with Pyrantel Pamoate Suspension (I get the 16 fl oz from vet) and dose according to weight. Then again in 10 days. if they are in the house and not exposed to parasites (like our dogs & horses are) you don't have to worry again. When I get an injured adult - I worm them the same. But in Illinois we don't seem to have the worm load like the south. I also worm my raccoons rotaionaly every 3 weeks as well as my fox kits as soon as they enter my rehab.

Interesting point. My Trooper lives in the south west and is an indoor squirrel. He loves to play catch-me-if-you-can with my Dalmatian dog, so do I need to get him de-wormed regularly just in case?
Thanks, Trooper's dad

no - worming just upon intake is good. Just like if you had an inside only cat and she never met any other cat - she'd be fine with out anything. I used to live in Chicago and my vet never treated my isolated kitties after they were tested and wormed. Same thing with an inside squirrel. My squirrels (the non releaseables) were all wormed twice (a week apart) when they came in (per vet) then I don't worry ever again.
