Do squirrels fur change from 9 wks to 11 wks of age? I noticed my babies hair has thickened up a lot and is not so soft anymore. They feel like they are wearing wool. The fur on their head is still soft, flat and shiney but on the body it is cottony wooly. We live in Florida. Is this winter hair? It is still 70/80's degrees here.

Their fur does change througout the year, but it's based on hours of LIGHT during the day, not temperature. As the days got shorter your guys started to grow their "winter" fur....ok you are in Florida but they still need a bit more fur in winter than in summer. Up here the grey squirrels get a white sprinkling all over their back and shoulders, as if someone powdered them with sugar. :)

Thanks again. I'm so glad I can ask questions about how they develop and get an immediate response. I love this board and you for being here for us newbies. Squirrel love is such a special treat that I am cherishing. Without your help I'd be lost in crazy squirrel land. Wait, I am lost in crazy squirrel land.:jump
