Are chestnuts ok? I don't see them on the nut list.

Other than their ridiculous expense, squirrels love them and I do give them as treats once in awhile. HOWEVER: one of our best Florida rehabbers (Jackie in Tampa) has sworn off them for her squirrels because they can develop a very toxic mold, and she believes one of her babies became critically ill after eating one.

These are fresh from the store. I only bought a few.

These are not roasted. Are they safe not roasted? They are still in the shell.

I always feed them raw. But since you are in Florida where there tends to be more mold & such than up north, I would punch a hole in a few, and nuke them for about 5mins in the microwave. That should kill any and all bad thingies on or inside of them. Let them cool off and give them to your squirrels.

(If you really want a treat, boil some, with 3-4 bay leaves added, for about half an hour. Eat 'em yourself....YUM. )

No problem. And don't forget to punch holes -- otherwise :fireworks:sanp3

Can you look at my post on fur questions in non life threatening posts?

Also my chirp question in the same area? I really think my babies are 12 wks old but my husband thinks they are 11 wks. They are all over the house and everything in it now. Lamps, walls, high window ledges, etc, etc. They run a million miles per hour and are leaping impossible lengths. I follow them around like a worried mother which I am. No need for the gym anymore. They wear me out.
