Does anyone know if those little orange fruits that fall out of palm trees are edible to squirrels?mjs

No idea.
If you're lucky, you might be able to see what other squirrels think.
If the wilds eat them, guess they'd be OK.

:nono SAGO PALM FRUITS ARE POISONOUS -- at least in Florida and Texas. We have had tragic posts here from folks who lost their squirrels after eating sago palm fruit.

I have three King Sago Palms in my backyard and until recently had numerous squirrels. During the last month I noticed them eating the seeds from the female palms. While I used to see squirrels all throughout the day, everyday, I can't recall seeing any in my backyard the last two weeks, so I assume eating the seeds led to their demise.

The Sabal or Cabbage Palm yields clusters of shiny green berries that become dark blue-purple with age. The wilds (and Rama and Cruiser) like the grape sized berries .They prefer them shiny...as a dull color reflects age and bitterness.
My two guys will quickly chew off the outer colored skin, and then chew thru the hard shell casing inside--to reveal a very small white nut--which is the PRIZE.
