If you are a licensed rehabber in Florida, could you contact me and let me know if you wouldn't mind me asking you some questions that are state specific?:thankyou

HI ..I am not licensed but know some about it..
Have two study books right here, have the laws on hand...

If you were wanting to volunteer or be sub permitted, I cannot help you with that.
To be Sub'ed means you legally can take in critters from your permitted rehabber, keeping a log.
If you have 1000 volunteered hours , wah la, permitted..or take the test.

Corrrect me if I am wrong but so far I have figured out that: In the state of Florida: It is legal for any random person to snatch up a wild squirrel, put it in a cage and call it a pet. BUT to find an injured or orphaned squirrel, nurse it to health with the intentions of releasing it is illegal. Am I right so far?

I don't think so, I know several that help and release that aren't rehabbers, I'd like to know that also

I do know if you have racoons lets say you want removed from your property you can

A. Call someone to come trap them and remove them for $75 per animal
B. Trap them yourself with a special trap, which is expensive, but you may not relocate them yourself,
you must call animal control or a licensed removal group, and that is about $60 per animal.

But this is for my area. County by county may be different.
I say we all live together and enjoy each others company!!

sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie...if ya know what I mean...

I have shared the law via PM with Christine and will with you too Laurie..
It is here on the board somewhere the actual Florida laws...
and there are loop holes too...:crazy

truth is...unless you have a nasty neighbor or are cruel to sqs...no one really is out there searching for people with sqs in their houses...
FWC is alot busier than that with hunting season, fishing licenses...lobsters etc..rooster fights, bird flu..poisonings
not real interested in OUR sqs.
Sqs are everywhere...thousands..
FWC knows we find them daily and rescue raise and release...
YOU DO NOT NEED A PERMIT TO TAKE A SQ TO THE VET IF THE VET IS WILLING TO TREAT.
what they do not like is us transporting them all over the place...
this can be dangerous to the environment...and genetics etc...
SELLING WILDLIFE is illegal without a permit as it should be...
however for some reason you can sell flyers:shakehead

FWC give sthe test in several different locations through out the state to be permitted as a wildlife rehabber..it is free as is the actual license.
The test is relatively simple...no experience is needed. The other option is to have earned your license by volunteering 1000 hours with a rehab center or with a vet or rehabber.
Sub permits are done thru a permitteed rehabber and FWC, alog is still kept and sqs can be taken in legally from permit holder only.

Hope this helps.

raccoons are all together different...
they do not want JUST anyone playing with bats foxes and coonies...RVS.
No where is it legal to take ildlife over any state lines..not veru many places allow trap and release...main concern ..spreading disease.
That's why a trapper has to do it...$$$$$

Many trappers/centers/organizations will euthanize any RVS reguardless.
