Hi, I thought I would introduce myself here, as I have already learned so much from you all! I am learning new things everyday :)

My daughter had a baby squirrel run up to her at the bus stop and climb on her shoe/leg. We left it there, hoping it would go back to it's mom/family. When we went back out to the store it was sitting in the sun on the lawn, dangerously close to the busy road and in clear view of predators. We decided to take it home, and I was going to call my friend who had raised a few squirrels to come and get it.
We fixed up a small pet carrier with some tshirts and a heating pad under the back half. I attached a rabbit watering bottle. She was covered in fleas. Instead of going to the grocery store we went to the petco and got some Esbilac. We began feeding her the liquid, on the advise of my friend, every 3-4 hours. She seemed old enough to pee/poo on her own. When he came to see her the next day, we asked if we could nurse her for just a bit longer, we were all enjoying ourselves way too much! What a cutie! We figured out she is a girl, but she still remains nameless.
I have a husband, 4 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats, a parakeet, some hermit crabs, and now a squirrel!? :D

:Welcome awnuts! Glad you found us! There's so much info here on how to keep your baby squirrel healthy -- don't forget to read everything you can :thumbsup

If you need us to find a wildlife rehabilitator in your area we can do that, since we have some wonderful members in GA....
If you're set on raising her yourself, first read here:

http://www.thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24132

THEN: if you're still convinced you want to do this, you need to order some Fox Valley Day One for Squirrels (formula) from www.foxvalleynutrition.com. The Esbilac is ok in a pinch but a few years ago the formula changed and it's really not good for baby squirrels anymore....she may start to have GI issues with it.

Oh and we LOVE pix!! Gotta see that cutie pie you have!! :D

Thank-you Awnuts for saving her!

They are very sweet but require lots of work!

It sounds like you have a Zoo! You have even more than I do! I only have 3 Kitties, 1 Bunny, 1 Squirrel and no Human children!

This place is magical and many wonderful people to assist you!

They saved the life of my Squirrel!

Yes, we need pictures!

Thanks again!

Thanks for the warm welcome! We have had her for almost 2 weeks. I have sooo many questions! Like how old is she? How much milk does she still need and how often? Does she still need heat? I will open a help thread. :)
I am going to try to post pics...

I JUST read that last night, and my husband has just returned with a bunch of 50% of fleece from JoAnns. The girls and I are changing the cage out now. I did see her get a nail almost hung on the towel across the top of the cage last night! So glad she didn't get hurt.

:Welcome , Glad you found TSB. :wave123 What a cutie she is. :thumbsup In the pictures she looks to be about 6-7 weeks old at least. Please most of all read the nutrition section of TSB. Please be sure that you wean her to a rodent block diet for the first month or so , so she will not be lacking in calcium as she weans. This is the most important thing you can do for her. Poor or improper nutrition is one of the biggest problems and health concerns we deal with here at TSB.

My favorite tip about fleece from Joanns is that if the fleece on the bolt is on sale for 50% off so is the fleece in the remnant bin. If fleece is normally, let's say $10 to round it off then if there is any fleece in the remnant bin they sell that for 50% off just because it is a remnant. So if there was a 1 yard piece of $10 fleece in there, you would get it for $5.00.

BUT, if the fleece on the bolt is on sale 50% off, then you are paying $5 per yard. Any remnants are still 50% off but not off the regular price of $10 per yard but off the new sale price of $5 per yard. Now that 1 yard remnant is only $2.50. I get most of my fleece that way unless I am buying specifically to make cubes, ropes, boas and hammocks and want certain colors / patterns.

Cute!
My family is not 100% in agreement on the name Locket... I think we might be settled on Lyric instead. Do you have a tshirt for that? LOL
Also, I assume she is a gray squirrel, but my DD really thinks she could be a fox squirrel. Any opinions on that? :)
