I have dosing info if still needed. Do we have a weight?? Even close estimate will do.

No weight, an Eastern grey, wild, adult, average weight. What we have is children's Motrin, not infant Motrin, contrary to what I 1st thought. :thankyou

I dosed at .15 for the first dose and then backed it up to .12 every 4 hours. But this was for the infant. Do you agree?

Pulled this off the internet:

•1 tsp (5ml) of children's liquid and ½ tsp (2.5 ml) of infant drops both contain 100mg of Ibuprofen- if you run out of one form, the other can be substituted, but be sure you know which you have and use them correctly.

In other words, you will take the INFANT dose and DOUBLE it. The infant formula is more concentrated so you don't have to give them as much volume. Who knew?

So double Nancy's dose. I would actually give MORE for the first dose to get it into him ASAP.

Don't know about dose but looks like others helped already. I did want to send prayers and good vibes for this little girl; I HOPE she recovers fully, poor sweetie.

Really?? Who knew is right. So Crittermom is right in the dosing info to be doubled if it is the children's form. :thumbsup

Yeah - counterintuitive...until you really think about it. I kept coming up with that from the strengths, then I actually found that statement on a site (which made me feel a LOT better about my math!)

I would actually triple it for the first dose or two...

Itès actually not for one of my sqs, it's Iwonka who got a call from someone who had just rescued the poor thing from the cat's mouth. Cat had it by the throat and the persoon screamed at it, the cat dropped the poor thing and they took it inside.

Iwonka is the hero here: she provided the cage, the meds, blanket, heating pad etc ... but being in town with no puter at hand she called me to get the info for her re. the Motrin.

BRAVO and THANK YOU :thankyou IWONKA for the heroic effort! Let's hope this poor little one pulls through. Keep the prayers coming. Supposedly she's in terrible pain, was biting down even on the blankets in her cage :(

Poor baby; cat bites are horrible. I lost one of the orphans a few weeks ago to a cat; was holding her when she went. I hope the pain meds help a LOT. Also hoping this isn't a mommy squirrel?

Dunno if our Canadian meds are same as yours - seems there's a difference since the strength that it says on the bottle of Children's Motrin is 200mg/5ml (not 100mg/5ml)... so what should be the dosage for that? I'm thinking it should be 1/2 the .15 in this case.

Can someone then make sure... so tired from running around all day, dunno if I'm thinking straight here. Thanks for the help guys.

I think we would be back to square one then in that case. If your Can. strength is double the strength per same volume. It would then be the same as Infant dosing. Right??? I would go with .15 . Some one else checking my thinking , please.

the motrin 200mg/5ml means there is 40mgs per ml/cc
what is the recommended dose for motrin? mgs per kg?

I have a chart that was sent to me eons ago..
however I do not know it's origin...I believe it came from Loopy...
however...........it states 10-30mg/kg as dose...

if the squirrel weighs 1 pound, and your motrin is 200mg/5ml...
the low dose would be 0.12 ml
high dose 0.38 ml

I would start with low dose and observe reactions before going heavy.

Oh, I am so sorry. Cat bites...

Could one of our Canadian members, the next time you are in the drug store, check and confirm the STRENGTH in the infant and children's ibuprophen you have? I got my info right off the Motrin site...no mention of different strengths, north of the border. If that is indeed the case it will have to be taken into consideration when dosing...

I am very frustrated! Something must be done here for all these cats killing wildlife at all times. Something must be done against the owners who let the cats outside without supervision.
The woman who tried to save this poor squirrel told me that only this year, she saw the neighbor's cat killing five chipmunks in her garden, and lots and lots of birds.
She has already spoken with her neighbors, but they do not care about it .. Now she wants to attack them legally AND I WILL HELP HER!

I'm so, so sorry Iwonka. I know too well what it's like to have neighbours who don't care one bit about what their cats do. Most of them don't even really care about their cats because if they did, they'd realize that the cat too is exposed to danger all the time for being let loose outside without any kind of restriction. The VERY LEAST they could do is put a loud enough bell on the cat's collar, so the birds and critters at least could hear them coming.

That poor baby... at least she died surrounded by love and was not left to agonize and die all alone in the cold. Thank you for caring. :grouphug :grouphug :grouphug

I am so sorry to hear about this. It is so frustrating when our little fuzzers are killed by predators...especially ones that don't belong out there to begin with. It took me a long time to accept the fact that the ferals here were doing what they do and not to be angry at them but be angry at the careless people who let them out there to fend for themselves in the first place. I am always chasing cats and relocating them to a no kill shelter but more just move in. I am glad that she had you to help her in the end.

Let's PLEASE realise that PEOPLE create cat issues! I lost one of Flower's wild orphans to the neighbor cat, really what does one expect when she is out all day and HUNGRY :shakehead . I have actually fed said cat and she really gobbles up the food. Find a feral cat rescue in your area, get a live trap, trap and have them come pick up the cat. IF the cat is outdoors, no collar, no chip technically they are strays. Feral cat rescues won't euthanize true ferals, and if a tame cat comes through they can rehome. DO NOT DUMP ANY CAT OFF AT A SHELTER!! If they even act feral they are gassed. If they sneeze they are gassed. If they show fear, they are gassed. If they are sweet and loving and there too long, they are gassed (most states do still gas). Talking doesn't help; discreetly trap and rehome their cats.

I KNOW cats are horrible hunters; I watched Angel Girl die. I've watched them kill birds. BUT if they aren't outside they can't kill. I have rescued cats; they deserve awesome inside homes where they can't do damage.

My condolences, but yes she went warm and as pain free as possible.

I wonder if they cared if their cat bit a rabid rodent or got bit by a roundworm positive raccoon?... although, they would probably not care anyway...

so sorry, iwonka!
It's infuriating!

Sometimes I think people should have to write an exam and be subjected to a surprise inspection in order to adopt a pet, just to make sure they are smart enough and responsible enough to be worthy of owning a pet. I mean, really, some people do not even deserve to own a pet.

Oh don't get me started. Don't take out your anger ON THE CATS. It's not their fault. Why punish another species for the fact the humans have created this stray cat problem mostly in the first place.

I LOVE CATS!
I am angry against the owner who does not supervise their pet. Their last cat was killed by a coyote and their replace him within a few days by this one.

The cat is not the natural squirrels predator!!!

The infant formula IS the same. If you do the math, 50mg/1.25ml (US version) is exactly the same as the 200mg/5ml (Canada) - 50mg x 4 + 200; 1.25 x 4 + 5. Same strength. I wonder why the heck they label it differently?
