First off...HI to all my old friends...I really do miss ya'll. I have ended up with 2 10-12 week old Flyers. They were raised by my cousins husband and he brought them to me so I can release them. The truth of it is I have NEVER raised a Flyer and the only time I've ever even held one was at Jackie's house. What should I be feeding them? Is it to late to but them out in my big outside cage? Do I acclimate them to the outside the same way I do Greys? Since they are nocturnal do I do all the acclimating at night instead of during the day? I have a male and female...the female is VERY people friendly but the little boy is very skidish. I need all the info ya'll can give me...THANKS!!!

post 10 is my begging that she feed the squirrel mealworms/boiled chicken breasts etc... they're meat eaters ... you can follow the healthy grey diet but add lots more meat....

then i've added mrs skuls advice ..... i quoted her pm (i have her permission)

then mrs skul herself came on and joined in the discussion....:D

it's a very good thread to go through ...

THANK YOU soooo much. I read over it twice and heading out now to do some grocery shopping for these babies. I do have the Fox valley formula and they still LOVE that. I still need to know if I need to overwinter in the house or if I can move them to a large outdoor cage?

PL they look beautiful! I have never rehabbed flyers but I know there are so many great flyer folk here. Would you like me to put a copy of this post in the flyer Forum too?

um...beautiful .... so shiny and so sweet.....:D :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon

my personal opinion is that flyers can't be released unless they're accepted by the community of flyers around them ...as in muffins releases....

flyers are community animals and i don't know how well they'd do by themselves in the wild ... (and luckily you have a pair but i'm still not sure)

there is another problem too...depending on where they're released.... if they're people friendly and you turn them loose .... if they should ever go up to a human being ...land on one for example.... they could be seriously hurt or killed if the human freaks out and thinks they've got rabies etc....

the very best person to talk to is mrs skul ....i'll pm you her number.....

Mrs. Skul has been pming me and will be calling me soon. We live out in the country on 10 acres with 100 unused acres behind us and 10 unused acres on both sides of us so we don't have to worry about people...cause if you ain't invited you best not be here...lol. We do have wild Flyers cause I have heard and on a few occasions seen them. I don't want to release them this winter just want to know if they can be overwintered in the big outside cage or if I need to keep them inside.

i'm glad about the woods.... :) ... i'm still not sure about releasing flyers unless the community accepts them....

colony animals don't usually accept newcomers unless it's a controlled setting like jackies or muffins....

i'd keep them or find them good flyer homes.... unless you wanted to take a trip to muffins next spring....:D

edit: i'm sure mrs skul will tell you about the winter inside or outside... cage spacing ...weather ...releasing ...etc....
