how do I fix Sara's fur loss problem? are these skin parasites? if yes then why doesn't Jack have the same fur problem? they are together all day and all night. in fact Jack grooms Sara a lot, although more towards her neck and head, ears rather than where she's losing fur... so I discounted an overgrooming problem with Jack.

it's isolated to a patch on one side, her flank, and the underside of her tail base.

I don't see any bugs on Sara, her skin is perfect, no scabs or signs of scratching. when I first got them they were visibly covered with lice, but we had that under control within a couple of days. plus why isn't Jack having fur problems? :thinking

:wave123 Hi MissPixy
Is Sarah a Gray Squirrels? What is the age and can you tell me what you feed and how much? What KIND of formula did you start her out on,
and for how long? :dono Do you notice her itching allot? Is her skin red and inflamed, OR Dry and crusty looking? (You said you see no bugs.)
"" Mange Mites are so tiny you can only see them under a microscope.""Do you wash there bedding in a laundry soap? If so What kind?
Do you use a fabric softener? Have you changed anything in the diet or in the normal routine? Are you adding any kind of supplements?
If so what are they?:thinking I know this is a lot of questions. It will help us figure out what is going on.
Hang in there, we will figure something out soon.:thumbsup3
PS
When did you notice her Fur was thinning or falling out?

Sara (and her brother Jack) are two, 15-week-old eastern gray squirrels. I began rehabbing them at 5-6 weeks of age. I noticed Sarah's skin problem about a month ago. it seemed to come and go~~ a bit of fur loss, then it got better/ fur grew in. at that time they were moved into a bigger cage.

I use Arm & Hammer "sensitive skin" unperfumed, gentle laundry soap because my partner Geoff has psoriasis and skin problems.

they've been on the FV formula since I've had them (the one for squirrels 4 weeks old and older)... right now they're weaning themselves from it so they take about 14cc 1x or 2x a day, up to them. plus, they also get daily rodent block plus veggies/ fruit/ nuts: chard, kale, carrot, zucchini, blueberry (one a piece) apple, radishes, radish greens, mushrooms, broccoli, arugula, butternut squash (this one, infrequently). also acorn, walnut, almond, hazelnut.

I also give them a tray of grass/ sod from our yard every week; branches to chew etc.

her skin looks soft and smooth. she and Jack seem to scratch a bit, but I wouldn't say it's excessive... maybe once in a while I'll think it's a little bit too much but usually, they seem relaxed or else they're playing with each other.
