Lulu (grey squirrel about a year and 4 months) is always a great eater. She eats nearly all of the fruits/veggies (mostly veggies) in her bowl daily. She eats a few pieces of plain rodent block daily. Of course she eats her seeds and nuts that she gets a taste of daily....and she LOVES Boo Balls. When she gets her supper in the evening or at night, she will smell the bowl (after eating her Boo Ball first) and acts as if she doesn't want any of it. She turns her nose quickly to the food in the bowl (couple watermelon and/or squash seeds, rodent block, a small sweet treat of some kind, and a couple hazelnut pieces out of the shell). She will only eat the food if I hand it to her. If I ignore her, she will eventually go over and eat but it takes her a little while to decide to and most of the food will be left in the bowl overnight. She has been doing this on and off for a long time. Anybody know why? She will sit next to the bowl and wait for me to hand her the food. It's like she only wants it out of my hand. If it's in her bowl she could care less. Just curious why she does this. I will even let her sit on my hand and put my arm next to the bowl for her to check out the food. She will stretch out to the bowl but will not step off of my hand (remains in constant contact with me) and she will still pull back to me without any food. She will sit and wait for me to get something and then gets excited about taking it from me. Nothing about her routine or cage or bowls has been changed. I rotate a couple of her foods out aside from the Boo Ball and the block. Thanks! :)

Bushy has trained us to feed her and trained us to massage her for hours on end. If we stop there is hell to pay.

Too funny! Lulu gets rocked to sleep nearly every night and before that we watch tv together on the computer and the WHOLE time she gets belly rubs, her neck scratched, her back massaged and her feet tickled! If I stop....she starts grooming me raw until I start again.

OMG.... you guys ARE owned.

My squirrels also go for the Boo Ball first (even when there is a piece of cooked sweet potato or avocado in the bowl).

Well it sure is good to learn I'm not totally nuts and not the only one rocking her squirrel to sleep and tucking him in every night. :D

I bring my guys a boo-ball every night around 11pm and leave them their HHB's and a couple of Teklad for morning but... while Hansel and Pebbles will eat their boo-ball right away then go back to bed, mister Hami prefers his boo-ball after he's been properly rocked and sung to and cuddled and stroked etc etc... every night. Most of the time he'll only eat it once he's had all his loving and then he finally crawls back into his cabin and goes back to bed.

Boy... you sure have this right: we ARE OWNED, and loving every minute of it!!!!!!!!!!:jump :jump

Pixel would only eat what we handed him and every night he would run up to his nest on top of the kitchen cabinits so I would climb up on the counter with a chair every night and gather him up in a little ball and climb down and put him in is bed on the nightstand. He would just kind of look up at me and go right back to sleep. If the tv went off and I had not picked him up he was down in a minute to find out why.

Lulu prefers her Boo Ball over ANYTHING. She will snatch that up from a bowl of nuts (shelled or not) or eat the Boo Ball up. The nuts come second. :thumbsup

How sweet. :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon They sure are smart. They learn fast to enjoy being treated as the kings and queens that they are. They sure let us know when we stray too far from our loyalty to them. :D

I am really enjoying all these stories! Thanks so much guys for sharing. Our squirrelies have so much in common. :alright.gif

Ditto! :rotfl I am happy to know someone else in the world rocks their squirrel to sleep. All of my friends/co-workers think I am crazy. LOL!
