Dear friends,

I'm celebrating because yesterday was rewilding day for "Squirmle". I'm both sad, yet incredibly happy. Thank you, everybody on this forum. It's been very helpful.

Over the last month, I wore the same white sweatshirt when caring for her. It's "squirrel armor", anti-scratch protection. This was sacrificed to line the new nest box with a comforting familiar scent.

I decided that when I replaced my shirt, I would iron on a picture of a squirrel. Then I thought, why not share this with fellow squirrel lovers?

So, here's a ".PDF" that you print out on iron-on transfer paper for light-colored shirts:

Here is a .PDF for on a black shirt (but I suggest using a white shirt for rehabbing purposes because it's easier for self-guided missile squirrels to aim at.) *Note: you'll need the iron-on transfer paper that says "for dark shirts", and you have to cut the squirrel out on the broad black outline before ironing it on.

You may use this art & slogan for any personal use, such as a T-shirt or tote bag or apron. Sorry, but you may not sell this merchandise.

Here's what they look like:

You can get plain white Hanes cotton/poly hoodies for about $16 at SEARS.
(I did post my designs to several print-on-demand services, but a hoodie from Zazzle will run you $42.95+postage, while on Cafe Press it's $39.99+postage.)

Squirmle fell into our lives the same day I had just covered all the insides of the windows with Heatsheet (shiny mylar survival "blankets"). I was just regretting that I had a piece left over that I ought to throw away. Instead, I cut an 8" X 8" piece, taped it into an envelope with one side open, and put her inside while I went to dig up squirrel rescue tools and supplies. (I'm a veteran squirrel-mum).

On a diet that included tiny bits of Oikos yogurt (formula syringe sits in cup of 110 degree water for 20 min. before feeding; lactic acid directly fuels mitochondria!) and tiny bits of fresh olive oil (for "good cholesterol", plus, it delays a small syringe from seizing up), she grew into a smart and strong baby.

Here she is on day 3 of her arrival. I don't actually give squirrel babies names; she was simply baby #7. After watching her, though, Jeff remarked she was so very squirmy, and dubbed her Squirmle, and the name stuck.

Nice idea on the iron-ons.:thumbsup
Might just do that.
