I read here that silver has some antibiotic properties so I went to the health food store and they send me home with Sovereign Silver Silver Hydrosol
The directions say adults one teaspoon up to seven times a day one teaspoon contains 50mcg silver. Any idea how to dose a 24 gram squirrel from that.
i've taken collodial silver myself...never that kind... would hesitate in giving it to a flyer..... in case it messes up with their digestive tract.... (it would have messed up my rabbits so i see everything through that view point)
but it's good for you ....
as for something that would help with her immune system mrs skul uses gnc echinacea capsules in water i think 1 to 1 gallon ....
you can ask her how that would be for a flyer....
she uses it in her birdbaths and i'm sure the flyers drink from there...

I thought I had seen on here that it was a good idea but I can't find it now. I must have seen something because I had never heard of it before. I will hold off unless someone chimes in that they have had luck with it.
I've never heard of it being taken internally.
I have serious doubts about it's effectivness in that regard.
I do know it shows that it does have some properties in open conditions such as real silverware, etc.
Might be worth the time to do a little more research.
Not from "health" food sources, however.:D

If you think he needs another antibiotic, you should get it from your vet. If he needs it, he needs the right one[s].
If he doesn't really need it, then you're taking a big chance [with possibly his life] trying to dose something with surely no clinical data.
collodial silver is really, really popular in health food circles... and i took it for years ...
(i did mention it in flashes thread concerning a yeast type infection in his ears)
(i also searched to see where you might have seen it... but couldn't find it... i'll tell you how to search... at the top right we have search between new posts and quick links... type in your word there and then hopefully a lot of threads come on ... then you go to each thread and there's another line below where you first saw the original search .... just below where the pages show up ... and there is another search which is 'search this thread' put in your word and hopefully you'll find something useful.... )
pat if you're not going to take it yourself and it's not opened maybe you could return it to the store for a credit ...
if you could talk to mrs skul or skul about echinacea capsules in water though i think that would be a better bet for you ...mrs skul uses it to help with squirrel pox which is a very deadly virus .... and seems to be safe for everyone....

Jackie in Tampa can tell you what you need to know. I think it was actually Silvadene (Silver sulfadiazine) that she used to heal the terrible gash on her squirrel's side. You should PM her for advice. And actually, Naturesgift has a lot of experience using holistic remedies with animals. I would contact them both and ask them to read through Pixie's thread and see if they recommend the stuff you bought or have any other ideas. I'd be wary of medicating oral silver.

Dang, I hadn't thought of her.
I'll shoot her a PM.
I'd like to know, myself.

Mandy, it's theorized to be a circulatory injury or spider bite. If your phone allows you to read, check this out. I came in halfway through but now wish we'd pinged you earlier. Little Pixie's foot is dying and the hope is that it will happen naturally but there's some ugly swelling right above it.

ok i am all for herbal and alternative remedies. but honestly having experience with leg infections ..
easily heading into going septic
i wont say go ahead b.c if it doesnt work i wont be held responsible.
i have used the liquid silver in birds with crop infections.
personally in this case I would get baytril.
you can give the lil one a drop of the silver its quite healthy in boosting antibodies as is cayenne pepper but i wouldnt use it to treat a infection solo.
its very good as a suppement for ppl and animals orally or topically.
the creme mentioned has sulfa in it
comfrey would be good topically as it boosts the white blood cells to encourage life

Your baby could easily die from all this. That foot and leg, and belly look terrible and they need vet attention. Amputation, better antibiotics, blood thinners.... the vet will know and has to be aggressive. Having limbs just die off is not just like having a sniffle. This can easily be life threatening.

Thanks I will look for something topical maybe. She has been to the vet a couple of times and she is on anibiotics the name escapes me at the moment something pink in a syringe twice a day and tramadol. Her injury originally covered a large portion of her body but had improve a lot we are down to the spots on her belly and the leg. I was just looking for something else I could do to help her along. We will re evaluate at the end of this course of medicine. The leg is exactly how the vet said it would be at this point. I just thought if 15 or 20 dollars worth of something would help her get over the infections faster I would be up to trying it but not at the risk of compromising the treatment she is getting now or even hurting her.

yeah i read it it reminds me of my Heidi
and i agree amputation may be needed.
it is just so easy and fast for infection to to spread and wrap around internal organs.
i dont mess with these type of infections.
the silver wont stop the antibiodics.
but seeing a vet and getting good antibiodics is key. and we need the leg assessed by a vet in person
