Please Help!!!!!!My littel Man

I always feed my squirrels. But this yr. I had a small brown squirrel (I live in Michigan) - that was very friendly and small with out family.? I think.. I can feed him he comes up to my glass door. In Michigan it starts getting cold in Oct. I saw that his teeth would chater from being so small and cold. Now his hair has come out around his head, neck, and ears. He iches and is getting scabs and open wounds by his ears. I NEED TO HELP HIM THIS IS SO SAD. I know there is somthing I can do. He just looks at me and knows I will help ......................So I ask what to do - where to go.

try to locate a rehabber in your area pronto. it sounds like it is mites or fleas , ive had squrriels before with same itching probs , obviously it too cold for flybots but are there any large bumps like knots?? if possible take a pic and post it. i do not have a list of rehabbers in your state but you can search and im sure someone here with the links will post it. hopefully you can catch it and get it some help.

keep everyone here informed. here is some i found , im not familar with michigan or what region you are in but try some of these. my bet is its mites , hopefuly yo ucan get to rehabber or vet that can help. if mites you wil prolly need tresaderm applied to areas . hope i helped

[Secret Squirrel]

The quickies and easiest fix would be to live trap it and get it to a wildlife rehabber in your area. Don't touch it as a safety precaution to you.:hurt
Sounds like mange. But that needs to be decided by a vet or rehabber.
The chattering of teeth is a warning for you to stay away. It's a warning sound and means danger. Like "I will bite." :pissed
If it was cold the animal would curl up for warmth. The chattering is a verbal warning.

I found a person in my city that will help my Littel Man. I thank all of you for your edvice!!! She suspects that he has mange and that he is shivering form no hair and being so small. It's cold here so she said he would probly freeze and if not treated would not live long. I have a cage he usualy comes to the door in the morning so I'll let you guys know what happens.

Nicole, is it a rehabber or? Just be careful! I have read too many stories here where the squirrel gets to the wrong rehabber or vet. It jsut scares me.

Sounds like mange and inadequate weight from parasite infestation to me...not having enough weight (or the right kind this time of year) can really get them sick quickly. Mange is carried by most wild squirrels to some degree, and they (and we) can handle it most of the time. But when the immune system becomes compromised for some reason, the mites can take over causing full-blown mange. It sounds like you are catching it early. Oral Ivermectin once every two weeks for three doses ought to cure it...but get a vet to dose it properly.

Yes, She is a rehaber. I went to michigan licensed rehabers. I wouldn't have known who to call if you all hadn't directed me in the right direction. I have some worry of caching him. He has always been friendly he walks right up to me when I'm sitting on my back portch it was realy strang and a little scarry at first. I wasn't the instigator in this relationship. I feed my other squirrels from a far. I don't know why he is so interested in me and trusting. He eats out of my hand. and now he will come up to my sliding glass door when he's around. :dono BUT I never have tryed to catch him. My gut feeling is that he thinks I will take care of him. But ? mybe that's crazy? He is a wild animal.

Animals know when you are trying to help. Adult deer always seem to move closer to houses when they are injured.
I've been watching your posts and am so happy that you have found a rehabber to help you. Best of luck trying to catch the little guy, you're going to get only one good chance, so be prepared and be quick.

I know I keep thinking one chance. or he will be scard of me. I wanted to tell you guys Sarah the rehaber also said I could bring him back after he was better. I asked her if I could volenter at her rehab. It's funny how things happen. I probly would have never have taken the steps to do somthing that would mean so much to me had it not been for Littel Man.
