A neighbor found a baby squirrel (approx. 4 to 5 weeks old) he said he got some milk in his nose and I'm afraid he has pneumonia. He is now in my care and he has labored breathing and is breathing through his mouth. I don't know any vets in birmingham who will treat squirrels but can I use antibiotics that are used for humans for squirrels (amoxicillin or cipro)? Obviously the dosing with be extremely different but I need something quick to help this little guy out. This is my 2nd time raising baby squirrels but I didn't have him from the beginning so they had poor feeding techniques.. Also he is twitching a lot, usually in his sleep but everytime he is touched (when he is sleeping) he twitches a lot..how can I tell a difference from a seizure and twitching?

Cipro for the respiratory:thumbsup :thumbsup .....a seizure is totally different from twitching. Don't forget to add yogurt to his formula or use a pro biotic with any ab's.

I dont have a way to weigh him accurately. He isn't dehydrated or malnourished and I think his eyes should be opening in the next day or so. I know he is older than 3 weeks but not as old as 6 weeks. The cipro pill I have is 500mg. I would rather undershoot the dosage and his weight rather than give him too much and kill him.

his weight is 110 grams.

That's actually a really good weight for a baby whose eyes aren't even opened yet. Can you post a photo of him?
