Totoro's nails are getting a bit long and could really use a trim.
What type of clippers should I use and are there any tips on trimming that could be useful?
edit: will normal human nail clippers work for this?

I trim my girl's nails with a pair of baby (human) nail clippers about once every two weeks. It's not necessarily something tsb advises...but since i have human kiddos in the house, it's a safety precaution. I NEVER cut into the dark part of the nail, just the clear whitish part. It will grow back almost immediately, but it does seem to keep our wounds to a minimum:rotfl If your squirrel uses a wheel, it may be easier to put sandpaper on that so that it keeps it's nails filed rather than attempt to trim them...depends greatly on the squirrel:hidechair

adding vertical and horizontal thick branches to his play areas should keep them in ck.....
not insinusting anything..just sharing facts..
MBD sqs have the tendancy to have rattie raggedy long nails that catch everything..
all sqs can scratch...wild animals need need need their tools!:)
as GF mentioned...only the white tips...
If I do clip..I do the left front hand and the right rear one week and the opposites the next...go slow...be careful!
If you do hit blood...cornstarch immediately will help stop the bleeding if you do not have styptic powder.
Sometimes my arms are so shredded I am embarrassed at the store...I know peeps are thinking some deadly contageous disease...

Thank you for your help and tips. It's not that her nails scratching me are a problem. I don't mind that. I was noticing that when Totoro stands on a flat surface her nails are so long that they do not sit upright, but rather they "fold?" over to the side, kinda twisting her fingers a bit. She's not as active as a normal sq. (doesn't do much climbing and such) so I guess over time they didn't wear like normal.
I like the idea of doing one front and one rear...so she can adjust. I wouldn't want her to bust her booty trying to launch and grab!
Thanks again, and take care,
Rainy
P.S. I know what you mean about shredded arms at the grocerie store! Back when Maru was still around I was so torn up I was afraid people might think I was "a cutter". ROFL!
