First of all I would like to say I am so glad I found this website, the information and knowledge I gained from it has helped me tremendously in raising my orphaned squirrel for the last 8 weeks.

I have been raising an orphaned squirrel since Aug 19 it was no more than 5 days old when I found him, now he is approx 8-9 weeks old. Wasn't planning on keeping him this long but watching him grow from a pinkie to a fully furred little squirrel was a great experience.
I have decided that now would be best for my orphaned squirrel future to be in the hands of a licensed rehabber to provide it with interaction with other baby squirrels and proper caging, care and eventual release. It will most likely need to be cared for over winter. I can also include the bag of Kaytee Rodent block I have and a new bag of Fox Valley 20/50. Highly recommend Fox Valley, Nick at Fox Valley is the best, very helpful, understanding,
great person to deal with.
Need licensed rehabber in northern Ohio -Cleveland Area-that has room for a 8-9 week old male

I am in SE lower Michigan, but that may be too far for you to drive. If needed though, I can help you out!!

A rehabber and TSB member Squirrelsrule&bunniestoo (we call her SR&BT) is in North Eastern Ohio. Not sure how far from Cleveland or if she has any room right now. She is awesome though. Ifs he does not have any room, she may know some rehabbers closer to you and might be able to make a recommendation. Send her a Private Message.

Thanks for the responses. After talking to a few rehabbers on the phone yesterday I found one that will take him. So my squirrely is gonna have some new friends tomorrow. I will miss having him around but I know this is the best choice for him.

Is the rehabber going to overwinter your little one?

Yes she said he would definitely have to be overwintered. She has other ones that need to be overwintered so he will have some company.

I am the one that talked to you on the phone a couple days ago. Glad you found someone to take the little tyke. Who are you taking him to? Just curious :). Everyone's numbers I gave you are people that I know personally and know they are awesome, so your little one will be in good hands.

Yes...let's not forget what a huge commitment is required to overwinter squirrels, for most people. If you have outdoor (separate) facilities for your rehabs and volunteers coming around, it's one thing. But if you overwinter inside your home and you're the only one who can go near these kids until spring, you pretty much guarantee that your next 6-7 months revolve around the squirrels. No winter vacations....no staying overnight anywhere for the holidays....you get the drift.

Yes team Ohio Rocks and thanks to them my little one has a good winter home. but I would also like to say TheSquirrelBoard ROCKS! because without all the great information I learned on here I would probably have been clueless on how to properly take care of him for the past 2 months

Thanks

Your squirrel is in very capable hands. The rehabber you have chosen is great. She doesn't take in too many squirrels, but the ones that she does take in get top notch care :thumbsup. She has an awesome setup too and will soft release come springtime.
