Cami's urine is very strong smelling. Is this normal? I currently have her on a mixture of FV and the Goats milk formula. Basically 2 parts mixed FV to one part mixed GM. I just cleaned her cage today and it already smells pretty ripe. Help!:dono

Are the blankets light enough to see if her urine is dark? Maybe a urinary tract infection?:thinking

she's peed where I had to clean it up with a paper towel and it is a light yellowish, not dark at all. Oh yeah, she has been eating her HHB's alot better too, but I wouldn't think that would smell either.

Does she eat any veggies?

I noticed Spocks pee smelled a lot worse when he was on the formula. It doesn't seem as bad now that he's on solids. Or maybe I'm just getting used to it...eew...:tilt

How long have you had this Squirrel? - what is strong and ripe to you, maybe normal to the rest of us Old Time Squirrel People ---- :poke :poke :peace

I've had her since she was approximately 2 weeks old. She's now right at 8 weeks. It's just been in the last couple of days that it's smelled stronger. No veggies yet. Making sure she's eating the HHB's before introducing the super yummy stuff ;)

As long as the urine is light in color and she is NOT showing any signs of pain when she urinates then I would think that it is just her growing up and her urine changing in its chemical make up -
hence the stronger smell you are noticing and will prob continue to notice.

Well maybe a bigger cage will help! And the litter box in the bigger cage will hopefully help. I'm not super squeamish, but I really hate her jumping out of her cage to me with wet, stinky feet!

Try CareFresh bedding in the bottom of the cage. Keeps the cage AND the squirrel nice and dry and non-stinky.

I will get some of that tomorrow! Still looking for a bigger cage, but maybe that will help in the meantime. Right now she just has fleece and some paper towels down there, nice a cushy, but not too sanitary!

Mavs box seems to smell worse when i line it with fleece i think the fabric holds odors more than others (thats my guess anyway) because when i line it with cotton baby blankets it seems to not be so smelly..... i just throw a smaller fleece blanket in for cuddling
i may just be crazy but it works for us!!! lol :thumbsup

I do have cotton blankets too...and I notice this morning that it doesn't smell as bad since I put the paper towels in there :thinking
