I've been hearing about how much squirrels love magnolia cones. Does anyone know if they can be ordered? Any suggestions as to where I may obtain some - aside from buying a tree? Also, do acorns freeze well or do they turn to mush? Thanks.

4skwerlz sells them at Henry's Healthy Pets when they're in season. I don't see any for sale right now but her store is a great resource anyway.

Acorns freeze beautifully. I wash mine, air dry them and then freeze them in freezer ziploc bags. I give them straight to my flyers from the freezer. Remember that squirrels would be eating them cold all winter. My backyard squirrels are very grateful for the acorns in the middle of winter. They do moisten up when they defrost but remain good for about five days in the refrigerator after being defrosted.

Thanks for the info! I don't know anyone with a magnolia tree around here to pick the cones off of but, I guess, I never really noticed before either. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled! When the acorns start dropping, I'll be sure to freeze some, while I have the chance, to 'serve up' later on. BTW, Jackie, I just wanted to let you know that the little blind squirrel I was telling you about about a month ago, is still here and will always have a 'forever' home with me.

:thankyou
