My 5.5 week old, Rocky, has been "clicking" off and on today and last night. He aspirated feeding last night a small amount. The clicking doesn't happen when he sleeps or all the time. He can be not clicking then after a few minutes its loud and frequent. He kind of shakes/shivers when he clicks loud. He still eats 10ccs of FV every feeding. Poops look normal, don't know about pees. He weighs 80 grams and his house in half on a heating pad. I have Ciprofloxacin 500mg HCL ABs. I don't know dosing, if need be, or any signs to start giving it to him.

Is the sound coming from his chest or his mouth? They make all kinds of odd mouth noises, but pneumonia clicking is in the lungs.

It defiantly sounds like lungs, he is starting to get lethargic though, not near as playful.

Does sound like pneumonia. Well done getting a cipro tablet. Great for pneumonia.

I'm sure one of the rehabbers will be on soon to help with the dosing. I left a PM for a couple.

Keep him warm and quiet. Movement increases his oxygen requirement and it is easier on him to be quiet or sleeping. :grouphug

I was reading some other things you wrote on other peoples threads Jackie, not a stalker or anything, you said one of the humidifiers is good too? I can get one if it will help him.

I got the whole probiotics. I guess plain organic baby yogurt would be the best?

You can use yogurt; if you have a Petco nearby, they sell Bene-bac for mammals in powdered form - foil packets - hanging in the aisle that has all the food and treats for their mice and hamsters. I prefer it to yogurt because it is pretty high quality and has a lot of the beneficial bacteria you need - also it has literally no flavor so you can hide it in anything, including the formula. Regardless of which you choose, do not heat it any warmer than formula temperature - I usually get the formula to the right warmth and then add it. Too much heat will kill the bacteria.

PS, common acidopholis is cheapest ...I use yogurt...
6 of one, half dozen the other...
as long as you understand the need!...cool!

Wait before/after feeding?

Give it now. Cipro can be taken with or without food. :thumbsup

Shake the solution well first before drawing up the amount. Maybe dip the syringe tip in karo syrup or something if needed--it takes quite bitter so once the tip is in her mouth, gently squeeze the whole contents in straight away.
