Two weeks ago a man came in to the humane society where I volunteer. He told the staff he found a baby pitbull. After the man left it was discovered that the pitbull, was actually a pinky squirrel. I was the best candidate to try and raise it, since I have a lot of experience with kittens and puppies. So I started web browsing and luckily, found this site. :thankyou
I have now had that baby two weeks, well tomorrow will be two weeks, and again that is all thanks to you squirrel lovers' on this site. He eats 1.8ccs at each feeding usually. I have named him Colombus, and the name suits:rotfl He is always trying to explore.

Today while walking home from school, I saw a dead squirrel on the sidewalk, but then a movement caught my eye, a baby poked it's head out. His eyes are fully open and he is very skinny. I have no idea how long he was alone, but there are no noticable wounds, just fleas. I carried him all the way home in my hoodie, luckily it was hot anyway. I call him Napoleon, but I am unsure how old he is. When I got him home and warm, he gobbled down 3 cc's. I keep them seperated and wash my hands after handling them, I dont want Colombus to get sick from Napoleon or vise versa.

My questions for Napoleon are is he able to drink water? And if so out of what, a bowl or a water bottle? I know I need to order Henry's blocks, but will he be okay for the amount of time it takes to ship?

Napoleon is still young enough to grow used to you. Just be patient and let him take his time getting used to. He will, he is young enough.

Sorry, I really have to get going;-), but I am sure, other people will chime in.

If you could, please, describe in detail what Colombus and Napoleon eat that would be great as ppl will be able to make suggestions to help you raise them strong and healthy.

That's so funny about a "baby pitbull" - people crack me up, sometimes:D .

They are both on heat, right?... with enough stuff to snuggle?...
Did Napoleon have any wounds?... any puncture looking wounds and/or scratches?...

And, yes, WELCOME! :Welcome This is a great place to learn about squirrels!:grouphug

Thanks so much, no I only have one heating pad (Under Colombus) that wont turn off, I will have to go buy one for Napoleon then. Colombus eats 1.8 cc's at every feeding, sometimes 2ccs. It depends on him actually :rotfl Yes they have stuffed animals, I hope they are okay. Napoleon ate 3 cc's earlier, but I don't know if he was just really hungry or that's normal. Napoleon had no wounds on him, at least not noticable, the only thing I really noticed were tons of fleas, but I already put just one drop at the base of his neck. There are no scratches and he is still active. He's really strong.

i do believe Napoleon should be eating quite a bit more than three ccs do you have a gram scale? you should be feeding both babies by weight if at all possible im not an expert but he looks to be pretty close in age as my Mavryc and hes eating 10-12 ccs per feeding!!! lol hes a piggy =] im glad you found the little guys though!! and what do you feed the little guys and how often?!

If she doesn't have a heating pad for Neo it's possible he won't eat much because he isn't warm enough?
What are you feeding them? Fox Valley, puppy formula, goat milk mix?

Just now I fed them both, Colombus ate 2ccs, and this time Napoleon ate 5ccs. I don't have a gram scale, but Napoleon is really light and skinny. Thanks, I can admit, though at times they have me so stressed I feel like going grey :rotfl I am glad that I was the lucky one to find them. I feed them Kitten milk replacer, it's all I had, and I'm a little scared to switch them (Mostly Colombus) now. I feed them every two hours about, sometimes it's 3.

Yup, 1/4 new 3/4 old. Then 1/2 and 1/2. Then 3/4 and 1/4.
My babies LOVED the goats milk mixed with vanilla yogurt. They did not like me trying to add in the whipping cream though. But all babies are different. You're doing fine. I just suggest *from the stories I have read* get then off the kitten milk.
I think all totaled out at the expensive health food store it cost me $8 for their food and it lasted me a week. I made it a 1/2 a cup at a time to start, then when they started gobbling I moved it up to a cup at a time.
:thankyou for saving these babies.

Alex - you should really try to get them onto Fox Valley formula. It is the best thing out there for them and it will also allow you to feed them a little less often.
If you send me a PM with a little more info about your location, I might be close to you. If so, I will give you some of the Fox Valley that I have on hand which will cover you until your order arrives. (meaning I might be able to get the FV to you tomorrow...)

The Goat's Milk is a temporary formula...you do not need PayPal to order Fox Valley. If ordering from Henry's a credit card works and if ordering from Fox Valley Nick can take a credit card or you can mail him a check.

Also, you really need to get a scale. With little babies it is important to watch their weight daily. When they go down hill they go fast and their weight is normally one of the first signs. K-mart/Target/Wal-Mart all have gram scales and they do not cost that much. If you are ordering HHB's from Henry's they also have a scale that is really nice. I bought my scale from Henry's and I love it.
