I have 7 baby reds, they are getting ready for the release cage. 3 are from a younger litter, and these babies are just a tad smaller. I noticed a few have a little bald spot on their heads. I've seen that before when they get formula on their heads so thought nothing of it.

Until I see this baby with a lot of hair missing. Obviously I can't release her, she's the only one like this right now. The others have their hair growing back in on their heads. I don't believe its mange, I've seen that before and there are no scabs or anything.

Anyone else ever seen this? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Oh Poor baby!!!
Look at how red the skin is. Are you sure this isn't mange? Any crustiness on the skin?? Has she been exposed to any other animals??

about how old would you say she is?? I just found out yesterday that if a squirrel has a fever at a normal shed cycle.....they will lose their fur. He skin looks awful pink...like she may have a fever. :dono
First shed cycle for a red squirrel is between 8 and 9 weeks of age.

No crustiness at all! Skin is soft and yes very warm. I never even thought of the shedding. He's probably between 10-14 weeks. I got him when his eyes were open and just weaned them all.

He feels like my sisters Sphynx kitty, warm and wrinkly! lol

A few others have hair missing, just not like him. They only have a few spots, their head, arm, or a spot or two on their body.

Thanks for all the info!

hmmm....wonder if it could be ringworm. My foxers had ringworm...well after they were in my care. I think they may have gotten it from my daughter. There were patchy spots where they lost their hair.
The skin is so red though...like its inflamed. And its strange that they all are losing their fur. :dono
Do you mind if I print out a pic of your baby and show it to my vet???
