Hey guys,
We found a baby squirrel 3 days ago now and we're keenly hunting for someone to rehabilitate her so she can return to the wild. She's ~5 weeks old (her eyes just opened this morning) but she's starting to get restless in the cat carrier we have her in.
So far we've tried 5 different places in Montreal, but none of them seem to be functioning anymore..
The "Urban Animal Advocates" listed in the city (which seems to be run by Andre Malouf and Harriet Schleifer have a permanently broken email and a dead-end voice mailbox. From other forum posts I've seen where people tried to use them previously I don't know that I'd trust them anyway.
We've also tried a couple of other services in the city and none of them have working phone numbers anymore.
We don't have the finances to keep her for the duration, not to mention just having her in the apartment is driving our cats insane.
My primary concern though is that if we were going to try and release her at the 4 month mark it would mean releasing her into the *brutal* Quebec winter. Every guide I've seen has said to release only in Spring/Summer but I can't imagine keeping her locked in a cage for 7 months!
Ivan.

I am going to post another new thread with the title NEED HELP IN MONTREAL and direct anyone to this thread. A while back, someone else needed help in montreal and Scooterzmom, a member in Montreal, gave me this information to pass on as a possible person that could help. The person's name is Nadia, she's a vet tech at a clinic in Dorion (450) 424-6469. I don't know if this clinic is where Scooterzmom goes to or what her relationship is to Nadia but perhaps you can call Nadia and if she can't take the baby, maybe she will know who can.
I will also send a PM to Scooterzmom and see if she is available to help.
People from Montreal can call now the SPCA of Montreal. they have a wonderfull team who take care babies and release them .
They can help also people who want to raise and release themself.
SPCA of Montreal : 514- 735 27 11
If you can,t find anybody send me a private message I will putt you directly in contact with a personn from this team .
Please remember than grey squirrels are releasable at 12 weeks old in the majority of cases. don,t keep them for 8 months winter in canada , they have time to be acclimated before winter .

Thanks Flo. I'm gonna keep that info handy as we seem to get requests for help in Montreal pretty regularly.

Hi Ivan:
First of all thank you for taking this baby in. Can you e-mail me? mgm48@sympatico.ca. I'll e-mail you back and give you my phone number... I'm not on the Montreal island anymore but 30 minutes away in St-Lazare. We'll see what we can try to do for this little one.
Flo and IR:
I would be VERY careful about the SPCA's response. I certainly hope it is true that, NOw, they have somebody to help... but I was told only a few months ago that they do take them in but ONLY TO EUTHANIZE them!!!!
As a matter of fact, back then I was told on the phone - by the SPCA employee - that they did take them in... but then when the person I referred to them showed up at the counter with one poor little fuzzer she was told there, at the reception counter, that all they would do was euthanize him! She took the little one back home and he died a few hours later.

Hey there!
Sorry, I'm notoriously bad at getting back to forums - actually, we've been running around town trying to get supplies and things for.
I sent Scooterzmom and private message, but if anyone wants to contact us directly about the Squirrel (we've named her Toes) you can reach me at Imulkeen@gmail.com.
She just opened her eyes this morning for the first time, but she's been "trancing" more and more when we try to feed her (it looks really disturbing, like she's having a seizure - even though the websites we've seen say it's "normal".)
RE: The SPCA - we were also warned that they'd just kill her there too. The Montreal SPCA is *not* a No-Kill shelter (every city should be so lucky as to have one as wonderful as Edmonton...)

I know that I am a little far but if needed I can take him in. I am in the Toronto area. Hoping the best for your little guy.

Hi Ivan:
I have good news for you :) I did speak to the SPCA and NOW they have someone who takes care of them. I even spoke to the lady - her name is Iwonka - and she's located in Kirkland. She releases them at Cap St-Jacques. She totally loves them, has been trained by a TSB member and I'm positive that Toes would be in good hands. If I could get a cage and get organized here I might even be able to take her myself (in a couple of weeks) and she'd have a companion for the winter.
