I have had my gorgeous gray baby doll for about a year and a half. In the past I raised 6 babies that came from tree problems that started out blind and hairless, but this girl followed me around the yard for about 20 minutes and I never heard a mother, so I picked her up and we have been a happy couple ever since.

I recently moved her to a much bigger cage. It is a cage I bought for my parrots but never got around to moving them into it. I have added some items to the cage as platforms, ferret hammock, and perches. I saw a large running wheel in Petsmart and wondered if a squirrel would actually run on it? Anybody have a gray squirrel that would use such a wheel? Any great ideas for other play stuff for the cage?

And like a true mate, the little stink likes to pull my wallet out of my pants pocket and take money out, but she doesn't spend it, she chews it up.

:wallet That's what makes them special. We are :owned.

The very best wheel is a Stealth Wheel by Atticworx and you can get a nail trimming track which is especially useful for bigger squirrels with sharper nails. However, I've heard that not all greys appreciate the joy of wheel running so I'd wait until others post replies. I have flying squirrels that love their wheels and I've got baby greys that are actually using the large Stealth Wheel a little bit. http://www.atticworx.com/

Animal enrichment is so important and it's great you're thinking about it. Have you thought about something really simple, like bin of dirt or Carefresh pet bedding, with acorns and nuts hidden inside? Also, squirrels are notorious for figuring out how to reach food in "squirrel-proof" feeders so if figure out ways to challenge your squirrel to think about how to get its treat, I bet it would be great fun. Needless to say, wood chew toys! Jakeslittleprincess makes the most wonderful wooden perches that my babies have enjoyed gnawing on. There are also applewood sticks and various other wood things in the bird section of pet stores. And for real fun, just stick a roll of toilet paper in the cage and watch what happens.

My grey absolutely loves his wheel I got miine from the website mirims posted he has the large stealth wheel but the one for rats because it's made for chewersjust in case but gmy grey the first thing he does when he gets up is a drink of water and then he is on that wheel.....It's actually amusing to watch he will run on the wheel for a long time then run to second floor of the cage and lay dead flat on the perch and the does it all over again........I have pictures of him on the wheel ill try and up load later ........It's funny though my flyers will not even bother or sit in the wheel opposite of miriams

In my experience, if you give it to them when they are young, they will use it. I tried with older ones, they ate it! lol Bean LOVED her wheel (she had the silent spinner, biggest one they make).
