Hi All,
I have a baby here that I guestimate is about 7 weeks old. He came home a about 2 weeks ago (I foster for a local rehab center) and his eyes had just opened. He was eating well, just a touch of diarrhea.
I was careful not to overfeed, and when the diarrhea got a bit worse, I put him on only electrolytes for a day and the poop started to be a bit more solid. So then bumped the formula back up, 25% at a time. The diarrhea came back. It is foul smelling, yellow and watery.
I feed FV formula, mixed as directions 2 to 1. I add a small amount of probiotics to the formula and a bit of yogurt. Formula is prepared, refrigerated, and amounts needed per feeding are warmed, and not reheated. Syringe and nipple washed after each feeding.
He is not getting any other foods - I would normally have some veggies and rodent block in with him but because of the diarrhea I am not introducing other foods.
I checked on old threads and started him on TMS, and some flagyl BID. It's been about 5 days, and still diarrhea.
I brought a second baby home two nights ago, and during feeding and cage cleaning time, that first night, she escaped into his cage and crawled into his box. (they're the same size but I was housing them separately because of the diarrhea) She now has yellow diarrhea too, when her stools had been fine.
The 4 other older squirrels I have caged in the same room are fine. They have not come in contact with any of his bedding or feeding items.
So, since the squirrel who came into contact with his bedding and cage is now having diarrhea, it appears that I'm dealing with something contagious.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? The TMS and flagyl combo don't seem to be working yet. I do have access to albon.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
