OMG! one of my babies has the beginnings of pox! Sharpei skin with 2 bumps. eating well, acting normal. I started him on baytril and zovirax immediatly this morning. But I just found out that my fiance has had him with 3 other babies in my care. They are clear, have been with him on/off since tuesday. Whats the incubation period? do all exposed squirrels get it?

HELP HELP!!

are you sure?
sarcoptic mange is sharpei in appearance?
bumps maybe irritated skin/ yeast or insect bites
pics would help....

yes I agree w/Jackie...wrinkled skin is a symptom of mange, not pox. Pox babies often have beautiful fur and the pox lesions are isolated bumps emerging through the fur.

Ok, sorry I am at work and cannot post pics, I could be fired if they caught me online.....anyway..

Donovan has 2 bumps, 1 is a little smaller than the top of a pencil eraser, flesh colored by his nose, and the other is more of a hard swelling right under his ear. I aspirated it, but got nothing out.

He also has slightly sharpei skin on his skin connecting his rear legs to his sides, and a possible thicker looking eyelid.

He has been on albon for coccidia since sunday, had a dose of that this am, and baytril and the anti viral (zovirax) this afternoon at 3. He was prompty segregated, and the other babies cage was disinfected and sun dried (though they have been exposed.....)

Donovan was found near dath floating in a pond on saturday-just FYI. He is eating/pooping and happy... Does not seem itchy.

HELP! Freaking out!

ok, the eraser-like bumps do sound like pox.
Don't panic. He's getting very good meds, and you've isolated him. :thumbsup Mange sometimes accompanies pox, so watch for the 'crispy ears' and around the eye stuff that means sarcoptic mange.
Poor sweetie -- floating in a pool! His little body got so cold that all his resistance was down as far as it could go, and so opportunistic diseases took over. Boost his immune system and keep him nice and warm. :thumbsup

Far from an expert on pox, but that doesn't look like a pox sore to me on his face. Can't really see the bump you are referring to. I am sure others will chime in with more experience with pox. Sending prayers it is not pox!
