Ruby's Accident

Well...Rubys new crazy playful additude has gotten her an owie. She was chasing one of my kids playing and the tip of her tail was stepped on(the fur part) and it took off the entire tip of her tail...skin and all...about an inch. She is fine and doesnt seem to even notice but its still scares me. it has happened to one of my rats and the part wthout the skin dried up and fell off and was just nubby. Doofy Squirrel. I wanna dunk it in peroxide...but I dunno lol

This has happened before. If she seems to be in pain [she surely is] she can have some infant motrin [need her weight to dose]. Clean it as you can gently, and do put something like Neosporin on it the next few days. It will heal. :( Poor baby. She's tiny and easy to step on. Probably needs more in the cage time. :grouphug

Yesterday was her first day out of the cage playing like she was. She went a liiiiittle overboard tho.

Yea, this is a de-gloving injury, as you know. The tip will die and fall off. :( But as long as it doesn't get infected, she'll be fine.

Baby [and all] squirrels are so fast and little and run under feet and chairs and tables etc., it really isn't a great idea letting her run around the house, when kids and adults present. They're much faster than our ratties! :D She could get stepped on badly and it might not be just the tip of her tail.... Some poor babies have been accidentally slammed in doors as well. :shakehead

A good place to let her run around a bit if needed is in a powder room where she can't get into trouble or under feet! ;)
