I saved 2 baby squirrels and they are great! We are thinking about keeping them and have a big cage for them to play in once they are old enough to regulate body temperature. However, I just realized one thing... One is a boy and one is a girl :sanp3

In the past I have always got my animals fixed, but I am not sure if that is even possible for squirrels. any advice?

:Welcome You have come to the right place for all of your squirrel info needs! First off, thank-you for rescuing these babies! Next though, you should spend some time really reading the baby squirrel info offered here. squirrels do not generally make good pets. They are "hard-wired" to be wild animals and although they seem very sweet as babies, they will almost always "wild up" as they mature and become aggressive as well as destructive. "fixing" them is really not an option as it makes them totally unreleasable and with the potential for them ending up needing their freedom is very dangerous for them.
On a positive note, they are the sweetest babies you could ever have the pleasure of raising. And in years to come after you successfully release these, more will undoubtedly come along and need your help.
I cannot stress enough how important reading all of the baby info here is! Particularly nutrition!!!:thumbsup

I have kept many adult squirrels together for long lengths of time. Many were with ones of the opposite sex. Never have I had any breed. the females will go into heat whether there is a male present or not. even females that are in heat with a male in their cage still don't get bred with. I can't rule it out but just dout that you have anything to worry about. I would go with not getting them fixed. Cost a lot and unnecessary pain for the squirrel.
