View Full Version : Lakeland area rehabbers needed on call!
Hello. I live in Lakeland and have been rehabbing baby squirrels for a short time now. Well, I put my # out there and bit off more that I can chew. The calls started coming in and they have not stopped. I get a lot of calls and these babies need help, ususally the callers that find them do not have a clue what to do with them and just want me to take them off their hands, which is okay, but my hands are full. I need someone that can take these babies and rehab and release. I have one now that looks to be 3 weeks old, I picked up yesterday, very dehydrated and emaciated by the time caller decided to call. If anyone knows of back up helpers that are not too over whelmed at this time please let me know and give me their number or email me and I can give you mine. These babies need help and so do I. I don't want to stop giving my number out because I feel like then these babies would not have any chance at all! I would love to quit my job and just rehab squirrels, but that is not reality for me right now. So please assist me in times of need and give me some phone numbers, emails of people that knows how to rehab, and has the time too that live somewhere near Lakeland. Thanks, Susan
Plantcity, Winterhaven, Aurburndale, Lake Alford, Dade City, Hainescity, Any rehabers around these areas? I am willing to drive 45 min. or so to save a baby's life by finding them help they need to be able to make it and survive and be released back to the wild when ready. So please lets round up some rehabbers from close by to assist in saving baby squirrels, because they cannot make it on their own and need caring people to be their surrogate mom until they can grow up and be a mom, or dad themselves!

Hi Susan,
I feel your pain. I'm in Gainesville and we're swamped as well. Fortunately we have a network of foster parents but it's never enough. I think there are some members near you and hopefully they'll see this and can help. Thanks for caring about these orphans.

Hey Jackie, I would love to take Freckles NR, but I have 3 dogs and it is already very difficult keeping them away from my lil babies I have now. I keep squirrels in my bedroom with door shut at all times, to avoid dogs getting to them. I don't think Freckles would have a safe forever happy home with my dogs in the picture. The ones I have now I will release and they will be safe away from dogs until then. Also, I need rehabbers to call when I get calls in Lakeland. I just want to have someone to take in these babies when I am at my capacity. I can only handle a couple at a time due to work, blah blah blah. Do you know of anyone near by? I know our friend Rhapsody is no longer taking them at this time, but who else can I call>>????? I know you are always swamped. HELP! I NEED BACK UP!

I am in Ruskin but could possibly meet somewhere. I don't have any rehabs right now and would love a little squirrel. I can meet you tomorrow between 11 and 12 or between 2 and 5. That would give me time to get the baby set up and comfortable between my 2 classes tomorrow or anytime Thursday or Friday if you can hold out a little longer.. :dono But I think Jackie said she needed one for a lone baby so by all means the babies having companions is the best way. Also anyone in the area licensed or have a 501 c3 I need volunteer hours and would love for them to be in something I love such as wildlife rehab.

Hey Susan --I did locate this Wildlife Center online...... I do NOT personally know any thing about them, so you would have to
check them out to verify they are Good/OK --they are located in Auburndale (city next to Lakeland).
