I just found a baby mouse in my back yard. My boyfriend brought it inside to me. He said it was under the truck he was working on and saw no hole or home where it couldve came out from. I cleaned it off and got it warm immediatlely, I then saw if it would take any pedialite, it did. I can tell its a boy and he weighs 3g. He is REALLY small ( post pictures later) and eyes not open yet, he has downy soft hair all over. not sure of age. I can imagine I can feed it squirrel formula? I have the baby in a plastic container with hot hands under a washcloth and a little blsnket over him. Any suggestions? Any good website?

The best formula for baby mice is human soy infant formula like soy similac. I have a pet deermouse named Nate that I got at about the same age who is a real sweetheard. He needs to eat every 2 hours - yeah, you read that right. I used a 1cc syringe with a silicone nipple - and a pair of powerful reading glasses! I have seen others suggest using a small watercolor brush - dip in formula and let them lap it off. The good news is they reject formula feeding with just a couple days of eye opening.

how can I tell the age? it looks like the eye slits are semi formed and there is hair all over body. I have included a video, its hard to take a picture it comes out grainy. ALSO he is moving aorund alot, is this good?

can I feed him the squirrel formula? or "new" formulated espbilac?if needed I can go to cvs to get the soy similac.

If you have FV he can have that for now...I only know what I was told and what has worked for me with several mice (I have released two since raising and hanging on to Nate), and that was the similac (actually I bought a store brand) soy. This little one is young - you have several days at least before eyes open...lots of little feedings I am afraid. The every 2 hour schedule about killed me but it was only for a week :shakehead

I will go to cvs soon and get that, I am a bit weary of the 2hr feedings but I cant let it die just because it sounds like alot of work. I can bring it to work since its so small, no one will notice!

I carried mouse in container, formula, syringes and all in a canvas bag and did all the feedings locked in the ladies room so nobody could see me! orked great - I have raised quite a few critters at work and nobody knew...

He needs to stay warm, too - can you plug in a heating pad at work?

BTW, like I said, I have done three of these little guys, and I kept the first one, Nate, a girl :shakehead as a pet, and what a neat little thing she is! As I type I can hear her in the hall running on her flying saucer. She LOVES rolling her hamster ball around the first floor, which is all hardwood floors (holy cow does that make a racket!!) She is a truly sweet little thing who loves to play and finger wrestle. Just though i would mention that.:poke :poke

I made a small travel container out of a small personal wipes tub. I just cut a small opening in the top about 1 inch by 2 inches and covered it with some leftover screening. Good luck with the tiny fellow. He's really cute.

Don't forget to stimulate him to potty! Q-tips dipped in warm water work or the corner of a tissue, dipped in water. Don't stop when he starts going. I usually do it before and after. Yup, can do fv, but have heard the soy is best, too. I never did the paint brush, but if I do another, I will....it is a great idea! Good luck, they are tough, but can make it. they make great pets!

I think he is the cutest thing in the world as well. I bought XS containers from shoprite as well as the soy similac. I took a thumb tack and put about hundred holes in it all over the lid and the container itself. I am goign to put a hot hand on the bottom and leftover flece from the squirrels for bedding, do I need to refrigderate the formula I carry around with me? Also do mice babies twich and move around liek squirrel babies? What is there approx full grown weight. He is 3g right now. I am feeding him 2ml.

I owned and bred pet mice (sold only as pets, not food!) for a few years and it was very fun and I loved watching them grow. Mice are very affectionate and sweet animals! :-)
Good luck! they are so hard to take care of when they are that little so please don't get discouraged if something doesn't go right. Not that I'm saying it won't! I am sure you are taking super awesome care of him - he is very lucky! :rotfl

Little Archie made it through the night. It looks like he is having diarreah, havent seen very much of any solid poo, he is eating very little as well. I am being persistant. He is VERY small, 3g so I figure he is just eatinging what he can, his belly must be small. I hope he can improve and grow. I love him already. Any more adice? Should I treat him like I did my Squirrel babies?

Aw, hon, baby mice are the HARDEST. I have been very lucky - all of mine were within a day or two of eye opening, and at that point, they are a lot easier.:grouphug
