start giving him a squirrel block/rodent block.
he might not eat it right away, he might just nibble, play with it, pee on it, but will eat eventually.
If his first solid food is a squirrel block, it will almost guarantee that he will eat blocks for the rest of his life with pleasure and that's very important to keep him MBD-safe.

Once he starts eating blocks, you can begin giving him good green veggies.
Once he willingly eats his blocks, good green veggies, you can start giving him treats in the form of a nut or two per day and some fruit.

All along, let him eat formula for as long as he takes it. Don't wean him, let him wean himself.
Even after weaning it's good to continue sneaking formula in some other ways (e.g., mix with his favorite yogurt, sprinkle, BooBalls etc etc - different ppl do different things)

PLease help yourself to Squirrel Nutrition forum - tons of info. And keep asking questions.

for hamsters is not good. Squirrels normally get rat block (Mazuri, Kaytee forti, harland teklad etc).

The links are just links for some stuff in our Squirrel Nutrition forum that you can check out directly.
Look for Healthy Diet for Pet Squirrels (squirrel in rehab are not exactly pets, but should be on the same diet),
There is also a recipe for a homemade Henry's Healthy Block.
You can also order Henry's Healthy Blocks from www.henryspets.com - she ships them rather fast.

Homemade Squirrel Blocks--(Rev. 04/22/11)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Homemade Squirrel Block Recipe (Revised 04/22/11)

Makes approximately a 4-week supply for a 1-pound squirrel.

Preheat oven to 205 degrees Fahrenheit

Dry ingredients:
90 g Pure Whey Protein Isolate for adult formula (for growth formula, use 185 g).
200 g finely ground nuts (any kind; peanuts, pecans, or almonds work well)
1 tsp aluminum-free baking powder
1 package (45 g) Henry's Healthy Vita-Mins*

Wet ingredients:
1 whole egg
1 tsp vanilla or almond extract (optional)
1/2 cup water, or a little more, as needed (this is for growth formula only; do not add water to the adult formula unless the dough is too dry when mixed)

Instructions:
Place dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.

Add all the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix with a fork until dough sticks together. It will be fairly dry, like pie crust dough. Wearing gloves or with your bare hands (oiled), press the dough down and then start to knead it. Once the dough forms a ball, place it onto a lightly greased surface and knead a few more times until smooth and uniform in color. Roll dough out into a roll about 12 inches long and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 1 1/2 hours. While still warm, cut into 60 pieces with a sharp knife

Allow the blocks to cool for at least 2 hours. Then place in zip-lock bags and store them in the fridge or freezer. They will keep in the fridge for several weeks. They will keep in the freezer for several months (unopened and with as much air as possible removed from the bag before sealing). Some squirrels enjoy eating them cold or frozen, but you can also put a cold block into the microwave for about 5-10 seconds to warm it up.

Feed 2-3 per day for a 1-pound (453 g) squirrel. Different squirrels will have different energy requirements.

*If you don't use Henry's vitamin/mineral mix, the amounts of vits/mins are below:

edit: the vitamins didn't show up ...please go to post to check thanks. silvana.

hamster food is not normally used for squirrels, only rat blocks are.

all ingredients for the homemade block can be found on www.henryspets.com
if you have questions about substitutes, ask 4skwerlz - she is the one who developed the recipe and will be able to tell if a substitute is suitable.
You can either start a new thread with your question about substitute(s), or send her a private message.

you are ordering fox valley ?

maybe what you could do is talk to leigh at henrys .... and order the fox valley from her ... send asap ...and also the squirrel blocks.... (that way you'll know that he likes them and what they're supposed to look like)

if you want to make your own she also sells the vitamin/mineral mixture which is cheaper than you buying all the individual bottles etc.....

as for the whey protein ....all of her ingredients are human grade.... :thumbsup
