Hi, i recently found a baby squirrel in my yard that I approximate to be 5-6 weeks old (eyes still bluish tinted but fully furred and tail is starting to curl). This little guy was doing quite well until today when he started clicking and breathing with his mouth open. Since I've been having to feed him by bottle lately due to my trusty syringe breaking, I was prepared for the clicking and administered 0.4ml of trimeth/sulfa susp. The clicking seems to have calmed down but now he is convulsively gnawing and still seems to be breathing somewhat hard. He is still very active, and he has been going to the bathroom regularly, but I am worried that he may possibly have a deeper problem. I did give him a bit of honey to rule out any blood sugar problems, and it doesn't seem to have helped yet. I'm lost, and I really don't want to lose this little guy, he's such a precious baby. Any tips?

More Info:
Eats approx. 2.5ml every three or so hours
On a puppy formula diet (I know FV is recommended, but puppy formula was recommended by a vet who does rehab here, it is NOT ebsilac(sp?))
No signs of trauma when found beyond slight dehydration and hunger
Has teeth, bottom set is about half a centimeter long
Has never showed signs of severe gnawing until today

*would post pictures, but don't know how*

Sounds like he may have pneumonia.
Treatment with antibiotics is imperative.
Baytril is probably the best.
Needs to be done as fast as possible.

BTW, I attended Alcott elementery, in Hastings. :)
Used to crawdad fish in Heartwell Park.

He's still clicking, not nearly as bad as before, though. His gnawing seems to have mostly stopped although he still occasionally seem to grind his teeth. He's been very energetic, though, every time we take him out to feed him, and he is very alert when he's not sleeping. I'm going to continue with the trimeth/sulfa susp. through tonight and see if that won't help his chest any. If not, I'm off to the animal clinic tomorrow for something a little more effective. Thanks for the help everyone!

*UPDATE*

He's doing a lot better! We still have the occasional popping/clicking noise when he breathes and he still has a tendency to have episodic teeth grinding, but he is so much more lively today than he has been, even since we found him! However, he's proving to be quite the mobile little guy, barely wants to sit still even for his dinner, and boy has he gotten vocal! Thanks again everyone :D
