Hey every one diesel is my one year old grey. I have been noticing lately that he has not been eating his vegetables or food lately as much as he use to. He is a little thinner is it a seasonal change? Or should I be concerned? He still is active and acts normally...any suggestions or comments .......thanks

I noticed my four I just released who were just over a year had slowed down on eating. I think since they are 'grown' they don't need as much food, so it makes sense to not eat as much. I would watch him, mix it up with what you offer him and as long as he is acting fine, I wouldn't be worried about him. Does he get a good source of calcium?

Sammy goes thru that every once in a while. I now stop worrying and first thing in the morning give him boo balls that he always at least eats most of. After he has had a couple of hours with those, then I give him his veggies and blocks for the day. It seems to get him over it and he gets back on track pretty quickly. :grouphug

I provide him with the correct food but how he I'd eating is the question ...the only things I know for sure that he eats all of every day is the mazuri rodent block that's the first thing nr will go for every morning....I use to give him hhb but he was only eating a half a block if that... So I figure it was a waste when he was younger before I introduced him to rodent blocks he loved hhb .....and is it normal for him to be shedding?

He is actually like it a lot of the time. :sanp3 I always give him just boo balls first and then a couple of hours later the veggies. It was a good way to see what he was eating too. Good luck!

Can you post a pic of the shedding? It can be completely normal, as it is going into fall and they do get a 'winter' coat, so will shed as new fur comes in. But it could also be diet, hence a pic would help. Do you give him any 'wild' foods? I keep calcium and mineral blocks in my cages, esp. wintered over babies and also use a light with a special bulb (made for birds) so although they are not get true sunlight, it is better then nothing! I think not eating also can come from boredom, as well. You have to realize these animals are made to jump and climb in trees and travel and explore...living in a house, even with out of cage time, I am sure it can get pretty boring. Bringing things in from the outside for him to eat, explore, investigate, etc will help with some of that boredom.

I'' post pics as soon as I can. I have some wild foods in his cage but there isn't any trees or stuff around where I live. I have a wheel in his cage that he loves, wood perches, mineral rock, pig ear, pig hooves, little raw hide bones, i have a pit I made for him it has carefresh bedding in it filled to the top and I hide things in there so he can go hunting in there, i also use kong toys and put peanut butter in it, he has a swing in his cage that he swings on, i have three of his girlfriends in there two his size on smaller (stuffed toys), etc... all are rotated not given at once...so it is something new and he has out of cage time everyday......I use to buy pine cones and magnolia cones but I felt they were a wasted because he would destroy them in twenty minutes :dono
