It may sound like a stupid question but I have a female chipmunk who is about 2 years old. I always found it strange that she has not entered heat when she should but just today, she turned violent all of a sudden (I had snack hidden in my pocket and she knew it. When I blocked my pocket when she tried to get in she turned violent. I always do that but she never reacted this violently, she tried to push my hand away and that was it so far until today) and bit my hand. She didn't just bite, it seemed as if she was trying to rip my skin off. I tried to calm her down by opening the drawer to the sancks and allowing her to go for them (there was very little left anyway) and while she was busy collecting them I locked her in the drawer for while (left the drawer slightly open). I thuoght it would give her sometime to relax. When it seemed she was done collecting, I let her out and as soon as she saw my hand, she bit me again. I had couple more bites until I finally managed to lure her back in her cage with a peanut. Right now she seems a little relaxed but I'm wondering if this was because of her heat.
She never acted this violent before and I read somewhere female chips turn violent in heat. What bothers me still is that she wasn't chirping at all. Female Chip in heat is not just violent, they chirp alot too.
my Kancho just wasn't chirping.
Did my Kancho enter heat or was she just pissed for a while? :(

hard to tell...
if you could give more info: what kind of chipmunk, how you got her, her normal daily routines and ways of interacting with you etc etc.
It could be heat, it could be the beginning of wilding up, it could be just her being so annoyed with you blocking your pocket...

another thing: did you use the same hand soap as always that day?... did you switch you shampoo/lotion/hand soap/etc, did you have perfume/any scent on?....
Do you have other animals?... sometimes, if they smell another animal, they might attack.
Try to think of anything that might be different from the "usual" thing.

Siberian Chipmunk. I got her from a small pet store where they sell animals other than cats and dogs. Most of the time she would climb anything in the room and when snack is given, she would search for a place to hide them. I am one of her climbing toys most of the time she doesn't let me stroke her (runs away when I try to) but Kancho approaches me always without hesitation. Climbing me id all she really does for interaction.
No I've been using the same soap for 2 weeks now I think and Kancho nvere seemed to even care.

strange though after about 30 mins or so I released her and this time she was back to her usual self, climbing me, sniffing my hand (looking for food) etc.

I was actually hoping it was heat. At least it means she's growing well
