My 5 week old baby girl always seems ravenous. If I put my hand in with her she franticly searches for a nipple in my palm and if I pick her up to nuzzle her she tries to suck on my face.
Can I add organic brown rice cereal to her formula? I don't want to give her more formula since it will cause her to have mushy stools but hate to see her act like she is hungry. I am italian and irish ... I want to feed her. :D
Help!?!?

Hey Girl - I know we just talked on the phone, but I'll reiterate here. Since you are giving her FV 32/40 with yogurt and happen to have some Ultra Boost (UB) on hand, personally, I'd add some of the Ultra Boost and see how she does...is she still so hungry.
I know we also talked about increasing the frequency of the feedings and the quantity but when you do she gets the mushy poops.
So, with all of that, like I said previously, personally, I'd add the UB and possibly move her feedings a tad closer together...like maybe 15-30 minutes. Also, possibly start the transition to the 20/50, which is a higher fat content...it will tide her over a little longer and will also give her more calories to burn.
I'd transition to the 20/50 before I add the whipping cream, again personally. Others may feel differently and obviously have more experience with ravenous babies than me, but everyone always says go with your gut, and the above is what my gut is telling me.
My guys got their first HHB today and the amount they wanted for dinner was significantly less. There is no sweeter sound than babies munching and sucking on an HHB for the first time!!:Love_Icon
Maybe Shelli would like an HHB or some block to munch on too since her eyes are open.
Again, this is what my gut is telling me, our resident "experts" may have better suggestions.:D

I agree with MM on this. Eyes open, start giving her rodent block to gnaw on anytime she wants. Transition to the 20/50. See if you can find that fine line between "she's finally had enough to eat" and "oops! mushy poops" :D. Sometimes it's way more than 7%. Female greys are larger than the males and when I think of the real "Hoovers" I've had come through here they were almost always girls.

Yogurt is 95% water. Depending on how much you add, the nutrients, including fat, calories, carbs, and protein, can be significantly reduced. If diarrhea is a problem, maybe the capsules of dry probiotic cultures are a better way to go. A lot more beneficial cultures; no water to dilute the nutrients.
Hope this helps!

What is Ultra Boost, and where do I get that? My Jack is still trying to get feedings between feeding times, and is still gulping down 7-9cc's per feeding. Jill is trying to do the same starting last feeding (2 hours ago).

The organic full fat yogurt that I add is one small baby food spoonful to 30 ccs of formula. I don't seem to think that is the problem since she has been having yogurt added to her formula for a while now with no problems.
The problem starts trying to find that fine line between just enough and ooops, too much. Today we had an ooops, too much moment. 1 cc can be the difference between well formed, healthy looking poop :poop and soft serve custard :nono
She is laying in my lap right now ...nibbling on my fingers, palm, and her blankie.
Here she is nibbling on her first solid food ... a banana nut cherio.

That small amount shouldn't be a problem. I was just checking, as some folks add a lot more. She looks pretty gorgeous to me.

What a gorgeous little porker! This is good to read. My little Godiva always seems starving and she's small and some of the other hurricane babies are still skinny. I've been trying to figure out if 20/50 or 32/40 is better. One has more protein and the other has more fat. One might be be easier on their tummies while the other....soft serve custard.

M2B I can see she is trying VERY hard to hide that fat tummy with her fleecy piece - her version of a tunic top I guess. Certainly she is not malnourished!:rotfl
She looks quite pleased with herself with that cheerio - mama holds her upright so all she needs to do is nom. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

It's just too adorable. I'm going out to get cheerios right now, just for the photographic possibilities.

She is beautiful! :thumbsup Whatever you're doing, it's working for her. She's closer to what baby squirrels look like when mamma squirrel still has them in her care -- porkers! I'd start her on quality rodent block and let her nom all she wants on those. Cheerios are cute but really empty carb calories -- they don't do much for us, either :shakehead :).

I agree. She has had those two (and not even all of it) and that was it. I put them in just to interest her in eating. Now that I "know" she can use those sharp little teefers she won't be getting any more "junk food".

One of my babies, Felix, has been like this too! I have jokingly said that is why his momma pushed him out of the nest...lol. He is a wild man when it comes time to eat and acts like it has been 12 hours since he saw a syringe, when in fact it is usually closer to 4-5 hours. Just in the past couple days I have been giving him honey-nut cheerios and some organic fruit loops type cereal (trust me it may look a bit like fruit loops, but it certainly doesn't have that yummy artifical flavors, sugars or colors of the good stuff....lol He has done better at meal times since I started this. I don't have any of the baby HHBs at the moment, so honey nut cheerios are what he will get until I can get some HHBs in. ;]
