Hi,

My three squirrels are about 5 weeks old - we've had them 4 weeks. They are doing so much better now - especially since I'm being very strict about keeping to the recommended formula amount - 5% of weight. They aren't growing as fast, but they look great and healthy - much much less poop, too. I'm taking pictures/videos each week to record progress.

Anyway, I'm doing research on cages. Right now they are in a tall plastic container and Hope, large female, almost got out! So I'm ready to buy the different stages of cages prior to release - or make the cages, if it wouldn't be too complicated - my husband is very talented :)

Thanks for everyone's support - I don't feel so alone anymore :thankyou

The cage mentioned above is GREAT!! --but if money is an issue you can look on Craigslist and find a similar cage for less money that will work for your little ones.
I have gotten several Large and X-large Cages off CL for $50/$75 - the key is to search search and search some more.

Good Luck.... :thumbsup

I forgot to also mention freecycle.org Sign up for your local list. I often see people offering cages or even large pieces of furniture that can be turned into cages by the addition of 1/2" hardware cloth and removal of shelves etc.:thumbsup

The biggest dang cage you can afford, is the one.
Don't put yourself in a bind.
Big is best.

Excellent - thank-you everyone. Petsmart is selling the midwest critter nation small animal habitat for $145 - http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3402796. I really like this one, fairly big and I can use it for a few stages of life. Looks really easy to clean, too. I'm going to check out the sites you suggested too. My husband wants to build a gigantic cage, so we should be able to get ideas from these sites.

If you decide to build...Skul is right...bigger is better.
I just built two 6'x3'x3' cages for about 80 bucks a piece....all hardware included. The first one I built was much bigger...8x10x12...and that one cost around 150 bucks to make. Nice thing about handmade cages is that they go clear to the floor. I found while looking at other cages that a lot of the space they describe is shelf space and legs...not the actual cage. For easy clean up in a homemade cage....I put plywood for the floor...and covered it with vinyl and also use bedding...so one quick sweep and wipe down...and your done!

Great, thanks for the suggestions - we will do that.

By the way, disregard the petsmart link - appears to be misadvertisement - the price doesn't match the picture :nono

I went to Petsmart after seeing this add a week ago...and the price on the double cage pictured is actually 238 bucks. (with your petsmart card)
A misquoted price indeed!
