Quick rundown...Frick is 3 1/2 and is now off in the woods on her own, but still comes every day (usually) and is the same as she's always been. She released herself a little over a year ago and has definitely been running the show in squirrel kingdom. However, Yesterday, I went outside to see her and some squirrel was wrestling with her. She wasn't making any noise and she didn't see overly bothered. They were doing that running and rolling move so many do. As I got closer, the other squirrel stuck around for awhile before running off. I picked her up and she was eating when I noticed a bad place on the outside of her armpit area. It looked like a bite or puncture, but it didn't look like it had just happened. Today, my mom and dad took a look and it looks bigger. Underneath the skin, there's a marble size knot. It doesn't appear like there is another puncture on the inside....just the outside. When my mom squeezed it, she said a little bloody water looking substance oozed out. I don't know what we can do to help her....what do you think? If the picture comes through...it's pretty blurry. I was at work and my parents tried to get a good one...but she's wriggly. We could probably put something on it,but I don't know what would help.

Hi Ragan :). I would clean off the area really well and first determine that it's NOT a bot fly. A lump like that could very well be. A regular wound should not feel like there is a lump beneath it....

if it's a bot fly ... don't do anything ...it'll come out on its own...otherwise you'll need a vet to remove it.... anyone else but a vet can make the bot release toxins and so poison the squirrel...

if it's a bot and it's dead then you'll need a vet and lots of antibiotics....

Hey Frikster!!!! Sorry yur back cause your baby has a booboo. Good thing is these little guys are mighty resilient. Do you have a vet if needed?

i don't.....elvis and vegas' vet that knew about frick is no longer at the practice and since they aren't able to be kept as pets i don't have one i can take her too...AND she's wild in the woods now....still friendly and handleable by us....but i don't think she'd tolerate being handled by a vet anyway. i've talked to carol and have a course of action to take....but chickenlegs, my parents might have to call you tomorrow too. if that's not ok - let me know. i will be at work so they are on frick duty and have the info for you and carol and the plan for beginning treatment.
