Hello.

Two days ago I was given a orphaned baby squirrel, he eats and drinks well.
He has done some wees but no poo. I've looked it up online and apparently when a baby is away from its mother and food for a long period of time this can cause them to not poo for a while. I do not know how long he was away from his mother before he was found.

Is there any sought of laxative or herb to help him go to the toilet? As he looks as though he has been pushing and we have tried to toilet him with no success.

Thank you
Veronica

When I first received my newest baby she would only give me itty bitty poos until she had formula in her for a good day. After a few days she was pooing up a storm. I wouldn't give your baby anything to help poo. You could add a drop or two of organic coconut oil to the formula but I would give him another day before worrying.

What are you feeding him, how much, how often, and how much does he weigh? This is information that may help us.

Hello.
He weighs 134 grams his eyes are open, his tail is quite bushy and he has quite a bit of fur.
We have been feeding his 3/4 goats milk and 1/4 cows milk ( all organic ) with a splodge of organic cows yogurt. When we first got him this is what a few websites said to do.
We feed him about every 3 hours and once at night. How much he drinks varies a lot, last night he had 7.5 1ml syringe fulls and at other times he has had only two.

Thanks, we desperately need some help!

make sure the formula is warm and he's warm ...they won't drink otherwise....

also if dehydrated will not take much formula

you can add a little bit of water between feedings....

you might be fine as far as constipation goes for now....

How long have you been feeding him this and have you ordered Fox Valley Squirrel formula? The goat's milk recipe is only to be used as a temporary replacement until you get the FV.

You should feed the baby Fox Valley 32/40.
http://foxvalleynutrition.com/prod/d...p?CID=1&PLID=1, http://www.squirrelsandmore.com/prod...s-opossums.htm, and http://www.henryspets.com/fox-valley...uirrels-32-40/
The above links are websites you can order from.

Goat's Milk Recipe
1 cup goats milk
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup dannon all natural vanilla yogurt

Mix well and keep in a covered plastic or glass container in the refrigerator. Replace after 48 hours.
