I just found what i believe to be a 1 week old squirrel. I went to pick up a clump of moss that had fallen from the tree and found three baby squirrels. Two weren't alive but one is breathing. I brought it in, put it in a box on a scrap of tshirt and fed it a droplet of water to see if it would respond. It moved it's mouth and gently will move its body.
Does anyone know of who I can take this to in my area? I live in Ocala, Florida. I have sent my husband out to get kitten milk. I really would like to be able to take it to someone that knows how to rescue squirrels. Thank you

Hi there, no kitten milk for squirrels.

If you call in your order and tell him you need it quickly he'll be happy to oblige. He can ship to you regular post 3-5 days and overnight. He's very nice and very easy to work with.
In the meantime you will need to feed your baby a home-made formula, but please for the sake of the baby, do not feed this for more than 4-7 days. It's a great temporary replacer milk but it lacks certain vitamins and minerals that the babies need to thrive. This recipe will ensure that your baby will be well nourished until your order from Fox Valley arrives.

Jackie (Jackie in Tampa) has graciously offered her temporary replacement formula recipe.
Jackie's Goat Milk Recipe
1 cup goats milk
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup dannon all natural vanilla yogurt

Mix well and keep in a covered plastic or glass container in the refrigerator. Replace after 48 hours.
Please note, this website has several links that still mention Esbilac and we need to keep these links active as they do contain excellent information so please keep in mind that Fox Valley is now the formula of choice for raising baby squirrels.

Hoping someone near you can take this baby for you since he is so young. I am guessing you do not have experience? For now he needs to be kept warm.

Putting him in scraps of t-shirts is great. He is way too little to make his own heat so you will need to help him out. If you do not have a heating pad (without the auto shut off), make him a rice buddy by pouring some plain rice into a sock. Tie off end and heat in microwave for 30-45 seconds. Be sure to squish it around...make sure not too hot and no hot spots. Put that in with him. It will need to be changed out often so maybe want to make a couple.

Hang in there...more advise will come on for you by experienced members.

Oh, do not feed him anything for now. If he is fed while his body temp is low it could kill him.

An hour is great...but please still make the rice buddy or even a hot water bottle if you do not have rice. I just had a similar situation and picked up a squirrel but the guy that saved him did not make him the rice buddy and he was cold when I picked him up. The guy also could not resist the temptation to feed him. He is still alive but he is very sick.

Every little thing you do can help increase the chances of your little baby living so please keep him warm and do not feed..not even little drops. Thank you so much!!

This is for Jennifer:

Thank you so much! Please keep in touch with me on how the little baby is doing. My daughter was so excited to give him a name. She chose Rocky. I am so lucky to have found you. I hope little Rocky will do well. Please keep in touch, if you can.
