Hi,
I have just went to full FV formula after recovering the squirrels from bloat (had post open in emergency life threatening). They are looking very good, no bloat, but the large male has not pooped during the last three feedings, he is peeing. I don't want it to turn to life threatening, can someone please help.
When I was using 4:1 and then 3:1, he was pooping fine, but soon as I went full strength, it's almost as if too thick to digest -- I don't know.
Maybe I shouldn't worry? His tummy looks good and he is eating great.
Plus I thought they were just 4 weeks, but the large female has just started opening her eyes yesterday and looks like the male will be opening his eyes maybe tomorrow. The small female almost appears to not be growing, but she eats like a champ and pees and poops good - and she looks good.
I'm currently feeding them about 4+cc every 4 hours - FV 32/40 - I also ordered 20/50 which will hopefully be arriving this week.
Thanks,
Gia

I'm there with you - I just dropped heavy cream and yogurt from their formula and since they've just been on a 2:1 FV formula, their poops have decreased 90%. I am finding some pellets in the cage, but I'm only getting 1 or 2 (5 tops) per squirrel after each feeding. Maybe it's just absorbed that well? :dono

I wish I had poop in their nest/bed, but there is none -
I just did the 4th feeding and still no poop from big male. The big female is pooping fine. This feeding the small female didn't poop either. They both look fine, no bloat. I even gave the male a warm bath and still nothing - I stimulated for a long time, too.
Not sure what else to do. Does anyone know if I decrease to 3:1 FV, if that would be enough nutrition?
He weighs about 74 gram and I'm feeding 4cc of 2:1 FV every 4 hours.
Thanks for any help/knowledge someone can share - starting to get worried.

How long has it been since his last poop and was his last poop during the water bath for the bloat?

Is his rectum clean? I ask because I have had a couple of guys who had bloat/diarrhea and once it cleared their stool was very pasty. I had to continue soaking them for awhile after the bloat cleared to clean out what was basically an rectal impaction. If it looks like there is stool in the rectum just soak for a couple of minutes and then rub gently - probably just like you did to treat the bloat - see if that helps.

Thanks. He did poop after his bloat and quite regularly until I increased FV to full formula. After his bloat, I fed 4:1 and then 3:1 and he was pooping regularly. When I went full formula around midnight, he hasn't pooped since. His rectum is very clean. I soaked like I did when he was bloated, but nothing. I also stimulated for awhile with nothing. I'm about to feed again, I'm really hoping he goes.
If not, does anyone know if I decrease formula to 3:1, will this give them enough nutrition? And if so, do I feed more than the 5% of his body weight? Or should I be giving pedialyte in between? He is not dehydrated and his belly looks good. His rectum doesn't appear full, I even squeezed it gently and doesn't feel like anything in it.

There have been a few people on here over the last few months that have had some issues with FV. These were pretty much all resolved by mixing the FV formula 50/50 with the goats milk formula. You may want to think about doing that.
Not sure if you ever fed that - it is 3 parts goat's milk (the stuff they sell at places like Whole Foods for humans, not a formula sold at feed stores for goats), 1 part vanilla yogurt and 1 part heavy whipping cream (which you would omit at first - must use the goats milk and yogurt at first).
They blended that with the FV and all the issues they had cleared. Just a thought.

Sad to say no poop at this feeding either for the big male - and the small female is 2nd feeding no poop.
I will do that, critter mom - thanks for the suggestion. I'm in a rural area so I won't be able to get it till tomorrow. Both that are not pooping seem fine - are eating like champs and tummies look good and so do they. The male just opened his eyes today :) I just hope they are both ok.

Just wanted to share - I just fed and he pooped about 7 pellets. I'm still going to get the mixture.

Just wanted to add that is not unusual for a little one to go a day with out pooping when their formula is changed on them....... their body has to adjust to the internal change as well....... :thumbsup
My Mix of Fox Valley:
1/2 c Fox Valley
1.3 c boiled Hot Water
1/3 c Full Fat Vanilla Yogurt
1/3 c Heavy Cream / (whipping cream)
(water can be increased as needed)

There have been several instances this year of babies having issues with full stregnth fv. I agree, going to the gm should help elleviate that. I think for some reason some just have issues digesting the full stregnth until they are a bit older. They seem to love the gm, too, which is good! Sending prayers they both will be back on track soon.

Thanks everyone. There is so much poop in their bed now - so strange. The large female poops alot and always when I stimuate her, but the small female and the big male are not pooping when I stimulate. So I'm hoping the poop in the bed is theirs. Their stomachs look good and they are eating very well, so I'm hoping we are all ok. I'm going to the store today to pick up the ingrediants for the gm mixture.
I also have a question to madtowntom. He/She had asked a quetion which I may have misunderstood - pasted their entry below.
## Is his rectum clean? I ask because I have had a couple of guys who had bloat/diarrhea and once it cleared their stool was very pasty. I had replied that his rectum was clean, but I was assuming the question meant the exterior. Maybe madtowntom meant something else. I keep reading about a bum - and when looking at my little guy and when he was bloated, I noticed that there appears to be some type of sack (only way I can describe it) that was quite full. Could this be what madtowntom meant? If so, does anyone know how I can clean out this sack. I soaked in warm water, I squeezed it gently, but nothing. It definitely is no where near as full as it was when he was bloated, but I think it is a little full. Any info knowledge you can share on that part of his body would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gia

Just wanted to share again - went to the store, bought all the ingrediants for gm - but now they are all pooping and quite a bit. Isn't that always the case :dono
I'm now switching to FV 20/50 (just arrived today), should I still use the gm mixture with the fv 20/50. I also opened another post to see if I just switch or do I introduce slowly.
Had a very very bad experience when I didn't introduce slowly, so want to make super sure what to do this time.
Thanks.

using half of the old and half of the new - and slowly increase to more of the new until they are eating all new.

I would introduce slowly: 1/4 FV to 3/4 GM first, then 1/2 each for the next two feedings, then 1/4 GM to 3/4 FV, then full strength FV. :)
