Ok, our power has been out for several hours. How does I heat water to feed my babies? I have enough formula made to last until their last feeding tonight but again, I have no way to heat the water to disolve the formula to make a new batch. I am sure that my answers are on the board somplace but didn't see them right away.

I am afraid to give it to them cold, but they will take the yogurt straight from the fridge. They are roughly 6-7 weeks, if that makes a difference.

Irene is not being nice atm...and we have no idea when the power will be back on. I have seen it out here for a week before...you would think we would have purchased a generator.

Thanks in advance for suggestions. Everyone please stay safe.

i'm glad they're older but you can't give them cold formula... all i can suggest ... and i hope someone else suggests better ...is light a fire and heat over it with a saucepan ...you'll only have to hold it over the fire a little while....

and please check the temperature before giving it to them....

as i said ... i hope someone else comes on with better information

Mix it up cold, now - just keep working it until you get it all dissolved - or you probably have residual hot water in the pipes. Try to keep it on ice. Draw up into 1cc syringed and stick it in your bra for a bit - should be able to get it up to close to 98 that way...

Of course, that is assuming when you say "mom" you aren't speaking euphamistically.:osnap Arm pit will do the same but ya gotta scrub, scrub , scrub to get all vestiges of deoderant off first.

How about on your gas grill? Do you have one?

Hmmm, that gave me an idea. You could put it between your thighs too. Do you have a BBQer that you could fire up and heat the formula that way?

Gas grill
build a small fire and heat water with sauce pan
you should have some hot water left over in your hot water heater and pipes put it in a thermos
mix the formula, put into a ziplock bag and stuff under your clothing for awhile...will absorb heat from your body

sorry if these are duplicate ideas...did not read, just started typing

do any of your neighbors have grills or generators?

Duhhhh....my hubby says (and I quote). You nut...we have a camper that will have power...as soon as I hook the battery up to it.

So yeah, I freaked out over nothing. Phewww...didn't want to put 20 syringes under my arm pits!!

Hopefully nobody else will have to put syringes in their pits!

no grill?
how about a big old spaghetti pot...go outside and build a small fire in it, then heat up your water in a sauce pan. make the water only an inch or so deep so it will heat up faster.

Any large metal or glass container should be able to hold up to containing a fire...DO IT OUTSIDE.

Do you have a gas stove in your kitchen? If you turn on the burner you can light the flame with a match instead of using the electronic ignition.

You could also turn on your car, with the heat on high. It will at least get the water a little warmer...I'd use this as a last resort though.

Okay, so I know you were freaked, but seriously...I just had the image of a woman walking around with 20+ syringes sticking out from her pits!!! :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl
