I have a female squirrel that is going on 3 months, and I need to find someone to give her the best chance at a normal life. we live in an apt complex, and needless to say they wont allow me to have a release cage outside for her- not to mention the streets and cats in the area. transportation isnt a problem, I can get her wherever she needs to go. so if anyone can take her in, please let me know! :thankyou

*p.s.- I have plenty of food and other supplies to go with her

Im in Fredericksburg, about an hour from Richmond. Krawls, if you know someone, I really would be grateful if you could help us get in touch!

she needs a slow, soft-release. she loves attention from people, but doesnt really show much affection towards us. I think she sees us more as toys than anything else. she would make a perfect backyard squirrel for someone without dogs.

The place I use is Blue Ridge Wildlife Center.
They are wonderful!

Blue Ridge W.C. is pretty far from where you are so I have three suggestions.

1. Send a PM to Chickenlegs who lives near Richmond and she can do a very slow soft release for you and probably keep feeding through the winter.

2. Call a rehabber from the following website that is closer by and does soft releases.

3. Sandra Green in Calverton has a good setup for soft-releasing. Her number is 540-788-4138. She was very nice last year when I brought my first two greys to her.

I don't have any supplies with me, or a release cage here. It's a shame, because I have an awesome release site in Midlothian; 6 wooded acres.

SG .

miriam regarding SG did you ever go back and check on how they were doing... like if that cage they had for them got wet when it rained... nest boxes etc....

i was one of the ones that totally freaked out over their setup .... i had impressions of rusty nails sticking out and dirty bowls etc... although ofcourse i was expecting something closer to squirrel disney land...:dono

is there any way I could send her with you on your way back? I have food, water bottles, chew toys, etc that she would need for the trip. I would even buy an all metal carry crate for you to take her in if you could

I cannot legally release her in Georgia. However, if you want to soft release at my Midlothian house, you are welcome to do that. Would probably be better for her to find somebody with a release cage, though. Pinky Mamma lives here, too. She may be able to help. What part of RIC do you live in?
